Well most casters end up preferring staves anyway because they can take a higher SP enchant than daggers+offhand can. It doesn't feel that off to have a staff you don't hit with (though I do think our casting animations should actually hold the staff - what decent wizard leaves his staff slung on his back while he casts in a fantasy movie ? ) a dagger/offhand is more bothering but not still not badly so. But wands are a concept people associate with magic users. A wand owner who isn't a wand user is... well let's just say it breaks the immersion of the game a little because it's just plain silly.
