"For those of you wondering where the live podcast is, which was recorded last Friday and would be episode 173, well, it's still being edited. There was significant disruptions during the live show, thanks to Skype misbehaving, and it's taking a bit to get it to be ready for public consumption. Stay tuned though, it should be done in a couple days."
YAY!

You're back! Can't wait for another year of entertaining informative discussion. (Or is it informative entertainment? Oh who cares, it's back!)

"You find a blacksmith to make you the resilience plate gear. You find a leatherworker to make you whatever the hell leatherworkers do...I dunno, they're the worst."
Best line from any of the podcasts, ever.

I dunno, I was much more a fan of "Full rage bar IRL!" That's my new favorite phrase. It should replace "u mad bro"? :P

I was looking for the wow insider blog on the kindle store.
I think I found it... for $1.99 a month. What's the deal with that?

I'd like to further clarify the shaman and druid differences, as said in a good comment a long time ago:
"Shamans talk to the mountain. Druids talk to the things that live on it."

I'm curious about the gear escalation discussion at the end of the podcast. Is the position of the speaker that the gear inflation caused by the (last minute) insertion of the ToC tier and the unplanned for heroic raid modes was problematic. Or is the position that the heroic bosses rewarding T8 tokens (and subsequently T9 tokens) was a mistake.
Seems to me that the token escalation system is perfect for a game of this type. I level, I run regs, I run heroics, I enter the current tier of raiding. That is the progression. Absent this sort of thing the progression is: I level, I run regs, I run heroics, I beg for runs through previous tier raids, I fail to find those groups, I quit game until next expansion.
Heroics MUST reward "last tier" epics once a new tier of raids is added otherwise the game is only playable for toons that were at lvl cap during the first tier. The addition of 5-man "tiers" in wrath (ToC and ICC 5-mans) was also genius for the same reason.
To my mind blizz must plan each and every gear tier that is going to be in an expansion before they launch it, they fouled that up in wrath. But the notion that "you must raid in order to obtain epic gear" is really just elitism cutting off its nose to spite its face. if you have to replace a healer during t13, you'd be facing 2 months of running t11 and t12 raids to gear up your new healer.
I am somewhat sympathetic to the idea of making JP purchasable tier pieces blue once the next tier starts. for instance once 4.1 drops, buying a t11 piece with JP will award you a blue ilvl 359 piece with the same stats. This actually makes sense as the gear goes from being somewhat rare to being rather more common once you can buy it with JP. TBH color matters little to me, the numbers are what count, but if people really want purple to be something that you can only get in current progression content, this is a better solution.

Regarding the "getting kicked from heroics "issue - yes you CAN get kicked immediately as you enter. You cannot kick or get kicked right after starting the instance but if you get enter the group when they're already like in the middle of the instance they can kick you as soon as you enter.
Had that happen to me as well once, not long after I stopped doing PuGs because it's too fucking frustrating... guild-groups only. Fuck PuGs.
That was like two days after Cata launch or something, I was waiting ~45minutes for an invite back then. I finally got the invite, was Vortex Pinnacle I think, they were at I think the second or third boss and as soon as I zoned in, even before I could finish typing "hi" they kicked me. There was absolutely no reason other than them being douches.
And man it sucks with those long, long queue times.

What's up with all this "ak-a-ma-gosh" crap?

I don't know why Mat was hating on seasons 3 and 8...from my memory the absolute worst season ever was definitely season 5.
