Patch 4.1: What we know so far

We don't know everything that will be contained in patch 4.1, but between BlizzCon and more recent information, Blizzard has already outlined a number of the major features from the patch. Let's take a look at those features, shall we?
Hyjal daily quests
A new daily quest hub will be added to Hyjal, one of the two Cataclysm starting zones. This quest hub will actually progress the overall story of the zone. If you've quested through Hyjal, you know that players end up healing most of the damage done to the zone. Patch 4.1 will reflect that, and we'll be questing in a healed Hyjal. Perhaps some of those quests will actually take place in the Firelands, similar to the Joust quests or the quest to kill Nemesis? Time will tell.

The quests in Hyjal ended with the player pushing Ragnaros back into the Firelands, alongside Malfurion Stormrage and Hamuul Runetotem. Malfurion and Hamuul then discuss going to the leaders of the Horde and the Alliance to arrange closing off the Firelands completely. This raid zone will very likely be the climax of that story.
The final boss of the Firelands raid will be Ragnaros within the Sulfuron Keep, and we're likely to learn more of the reasoning behind Ragnaros's aggressive interest in Azeroth. The plan as of BlizzCon was to include a total of seven bosses. Perhaps more of our old friends from Molten Core? It would be a good opportunity for them to revisit the fetch mechanic from Golemagg that they were unable to properly implement back in vanilla WoW.
Abyssal Maw instance
Patch 4.1 will introduce another 5-man dungeon in Vashj'ir, this one completely underwater like the world zone that houses it. Back at BlizzCon, the developers tried to assuage the fears of the playerbase by being clear about trying to avoid the "Oculus effect," wherein quirky mechanics turned the dungeon into an annoyance.
This instance will have four or five bosses. Based on Alex Afrasiabi's recent comments, among these bosses may be an animal god, if not more than one.
More classic dungeon changes?
Before the launch of Cataclysm, the playerbase was grumbling about heroic Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep. While originally expected to be in at launch, it was later announced that these dungeons would be in patch 4.1 and not available at launch. That delay didn't actually occur. Both of the heroic classic dungeons made it in at launch. There may not be any of this in patch 4.1 after all, or we might see a different set of dungeons return.
Enhanced dungeon maps
At BlizzCon, the developers also discussed the planned addition (or extension) of dungeon maps. In addition to 2-D maps of the dungeons (many of which we have already), the basic UI will offer lore background for bosses, their basic abilities (though no mechanical or tactical explanation of the encounter), and the loot they drop.
This UI addition is unlikely to eliminate mods such as AtlasLoot, but it will be a great boon to players who try to remain addon-lite.
As of now, that's all that we know about patch 4.1. Do note, however, that almost all of this information dates back to the end of October, and patch 4.1 isn't even on the PTR yet. All of this information could change at any moment.

Should I cross my fingers for this patch to have troll and worgen flight forms?

I think some people are getting 4.0.6 and 4.1 confused. 4.0.6 should drop sometime this month while 4.1 shouldl drop 5-6 months from now. If the new flight forms for Trolls and Worgens take 5-6 months to implement, I think you'll have some unhappy droods! :)

Did that bat just neenja my herb? /lol
Tavy Jan 6th 2011 9:08PM
Shouldn't they be adding the new flight forms for Worgen and Troll with that patch as well?

Think alike!

You know what animal god we have already met and would fit in an undersea instance? Oacha'noa from Dragonblight, the kraken animal goddess.
Also, I expect Zul'Gurub to return during Cataclysm. Maybe as a Heroic 5man, maybe even as a raid.
nymrohd Jan 6th 2011 9:10PM
Actually scratch that. Zul'gurub could even be a heroic dungeon hub with 2-3 heroics in it. Two heroic bosses already drop mounts in Cata, this way they could return to us the ZG mounts through heroic 5mans.
PonTelon Jan 6th 2011 9:11PM
The Zul'gurrub story gets resolved pretty well in Stranglethorn. Unless it's like SFK where there is no reason for the Heroic version(at least Deadmines has Vanessa not getting caught in normal mode?).
That being said, I'd love for 60-raids to get turned into 85-heroics. That'd be awesome!
arcaneterror Jan 6th 2011 9:40PM
The "animal gods" in question are of the type of Nespirah and L'ghorek.
Joker Jan 6th 2011 10:27PM
@PonTelon. No, the Zul'gurrub chain is a cliff hanger, nothing is resolved.

They better make ZG into something because I want to save baby Chomper!

From what I remember Zul'Gurub doesn't get much to conclude it when levelling through STV.
The Spirit of Jin'do appears after you almost reach the exit and says roughly "hah, no escaping! come back another time and try again" It still ends with Mandokir, Jin'do and whoever else survived trying to bring back Hakkar (again...).
You later go back and take out Jeklik and Venoxis but the quest still leaves you with the feeling that there should be more - what happens to Jin'do, how pissed is he that you ruined his plan, what other priests surived, will Hakkar try again?
Finished a chapter maybe, but not concluded.
While I imagine that Blizz wants to do more with it, theres only so much they can keep bringing back. Deadmines and SFK were explained well. Ragnaros was fairly acceptable. Nefarian and Onyxia a little less so. Adding to Hakkar to that would really give a feeling that they're scraping the barrel for ideas on new bosses.
loop_not_defined Jan 7th 2011 7:58AM
Nefarian and Onyxia are pretty straight-forward. The Twilight Hammer raised Nefarian, in the "I'm back as a lich, mwahaha" sense, and then Nefarian raised Onyxia, in the "I'm back as a mindless zombie" sense (sans talking).
They both have completely new zombie dragon models.

I hear dance studio will be in 4.1.
Magma Jan 6th 2011 9:20PM
I'm watching you.. *squinty eyes*
Sergel Jan 6th 2011 9:22PM
What exactly is the dance studio? or what was i supposed to be? I always hear about it.
Drakkenfyre Jan 6th 2011 9:29PM
People complained that the racial dances never changed. Whatever dance your race had, was the dance you had, and you couldn't do anything about it.
Blizzard eventually said they would allow people to customize their dances.
When the Wrath of the Lich King teaser trailer came out, one of the features was "Customizable dances"
It became a hot-topic issue by people asking for more details.
Blizzard said wait until closer to the expansion's release.
Talk about it slowly quieted down.
Eventually someone brought it back up, and a CM said "The Dance Studios are still coming"
Thus, we got the name of the feature.
Again, a long silence.
Answering another post about it, Bornakk said they were still working on it, but that implementing more dances to the races were harder than they thought.
Another long stretch.
In another reply, a CM said they were finishing up the animations, as they were putting a ton in.
More silence.
MMO-Champion.com datamined UI elements, including menu options, and some dance moves. Apparantly you don't just choose what dance you want, you can actually customize a dance from a list of set moves, and save them.
More silence.
More silence.
More silence.
More silence.
Until today, when 2 years have gone by, another expansion has been released, and we still don't have the Dance Studio.
