Razer Switchblade mobile PC gaming concept unveiled
Not paying attention to the Consumer Electronics Show this year? You should be. Today, Razer revealed the Switchblade, its concept for a mobile PC gaming platform -- a PC gaming and multimedia device that fits in your hand.
Though this product is but a concept at the moment, Razer's vision for the Switchblade includes a 7-inch screen and a dynamic LCD keyboard. That is, the keys are clear, tactile buttons laid atop a dynamic LCD screen that will change depending on what game you're playing or what you're doing in the game. Imagine questing in World of Warcraft and jumping into a vehicle. Rather than your in-game UI changing, the keyboard's display itself would change to represent the vehicle's controls and abilities.
It's unlikely that a device like this could be used for long sessions of hardcore gaming -- even if the keyboard works perfectly, that's some serious eye strain -- but it could make PC gaming on the go a reality rather than the clunky kludges it's been thus far. Here's hoping this product actually hits the market.

All this system needs is better hardware behind the scenes. The concept is a sound one.
If they put in one of the new Intel Core i7-2820QM Mobile Sandy Bridge processors and a fair amount of ram the system could easily handle WoW at decent graphics settings and with a decent battery life.

There is real demand for a mobile way to play WoW. Then again that demand may already be met by high-end gaming laptops or the various thin client options. (An example of what I mean by a thin client is running WoW on your PC and using your IPad for display and data input). Razer would have to really get it right to grab a significant share of the market.

@Drakkenfyre
Have you actually headed on over to the switchback dedicated site from Razer and read the intel section? If you had I'm assuming you also read that the atom chip they're developing for this particular piece of hardware isn't what's on the market right now and has had it's integrated graphics beefed up. This mobile entertainment device (and thats what it is, not a laptop or a netbook, it doesn't run an overcomplicated OS) is lacking a lot of what slows down intel atom processors in the first place, i.e anything microsoft related. Now if intel and razer claim they've developed a new and improved atom processor specifically made to do nothing except game, or watch a movie... then what the hell they may just have done it. Head on over and give it a read mate, you might find it interesting.
