Launcher and WoW are down, it's not just you

No folks, it's not just you. WoW is undergoing maintenance today, as is usual. Maintenance has been going on since 3:00 a.m. PST / 6:00 a.m. EST and will last until 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST. The only difference is, this time around, the launcher isn't even working, which is causing a lot of people to wonder if something is wrong with their internet configurations (thanks, no doubt, due to the lovely maintenance box).
But be confident that nothing is probably wrong, especially if you're reading this post. The patching server just seems to be down. Everything will be up again soon.
Blizzard's maintenance announcement is as follows:

I went there and it was empty...so...apparently not. :(

The Starcraft servers are down as well. Looks like its an entire Battle.net maintenance
Kizzle Jan 11th 2011 10:55AM
Just got done playing some Warcraft III Frozen Throne and D2. Not all Battle.net stuff is down :)
Poxus Jan 11th 2011 11:19AM
you can by-pass the Launcher and just launch WoW from the folder. I did this and went straight to the login screen but you won't get past that as the servers are down.

@Kizzle
The old Battle.net and the new Battle.net are separate services. They share nothing except the name.

Wondered about this very fact. Thanks for clearing that up! Saves me lots of needless headache :) Keep up the good work!

I was about to blame my kids for screwing up my computer. Thanks for the info.
Necromann Jan 11th 2011 10:56AM
I was going to blame my brother when he got home, guess not. Maybe.
Qot Jan 11th 2011 4:04PM
You can still blame the kids.
And then you can take credit for "fixing" the problem.

Thanks a lot for this post, I wanted to check to make sure there was no patch to download and got a little fright after I seen that message. Definitely little worried something went wrong with my WOW copy and the possibility of downloading the whole game again makes me want to curl up and cry.
Barinthos Jan 11th 2011 10:38AM
But...but...it's says to check MY internet connection. So there can't be anything wrong on Blizzards end!
The message says so!
Baba Jan 11th 2011 11:14AM
Funnily enough, this happened at the same time as our university's entire wireless internet went down
O.o
Barinthos Jan 11th 2011 11:21AM
Crazy, your university uses Blizzards servers for wireless internet connections?
No wonder my latency is so crappy some days.
Necromann Jan 11th 2011 12:40PM
The funny thing is that today my exams ended 9:00 AM and I was going to play for a while before studying for tomorrow's full day of exams. I guess it is the other way around.

Thank you for clarifying ;)

Thanks guys. I feel for the people who don't read this or any sort of forum and spend the day beating the hell out of their Internet routers, reinstalling wow, and on hold with tech support.

Thank you SO much for this information!!! I did some research and people were coming up with all sorts of ways to backdoor it. I checked the Battle.net site and realm status though and they're all down. I saw this listed and thought I'd check here as well and the information was greatly appreciated. Yes, I can't imagine doing reinstalls or messing with configurations by not just checking to see what's really going on. Thanks!
