If you are not using an action bar mod seriously consider doing so. Bartender works great for me, also consider using Button Facade.

I keep most my strikes on the top numbers 1-"=" and my cool downs/reactionary abilities (including rune strike) I keep on a bar set in by bartender that mimics the numpad. Since I can 10 key with out looking (but not type, silly me) it is fairly easy for me to move my hand from the mouse for a moment and hit 9 for mind freeze (as an example) the "+" plus key is rune strike so all I have to do is make a small thumb movement. Trust me that it is not hard at all and requires no super gamer coordination as that does not describe me at all.

With button facade you can change the shape of your buttons thus giving a different shaped button for each type of ability. I do not do this on my DK but have on my priest to separate heals from HoTs and disease spells from dispels and so forth.
