Around Azeroth: Sea of hate
Confession time: I've been so busy leveling my new characters that I didn't set foot into post-80 content until last week. When I asked my gaming advisor Calaf what zone I should start my paladin in, he advised me to go to Vashj'ir, which he stated was a lot of fun on every character but his hunter. This sentiment was echoed by today's submitter, Shofie of <Raids Without Pants> on Steamwheedle Cartel (US-A), who wrote, "Vashj'ir is one of my favorite zones! So many pretty places under da sea."
Calaf and Shofie, you will both be receiving bills from my therapist. Any zone where you get attacked from above by a contingent of six angry eels is not my idea of a good time, especially when everything suddenly has 30,000 HP and the starter quests don't gear you up nearly as well as in previous expansions. At least it's better than the Zelda water temples. Readers, what do you think of Vashj'ir? Fun or fearsome?

They're the organic form of yellow exclamation marks above NPCs' heads

Tube Sponges

@ Minos - They are called tube worms. Hit "tube worm" into google images, and you'll see.
@ Maccabeus - They're tube worms, not tube sponges. :) (Phylum Annelida rather than Phylum Porifera).

It's much easier to do Hyjal and then Vash'jir. It's a beautiful zone. Too bad I don't have a reason to go back except to visit the Earthen Ring quartermaster.

I'm not going to spoil this, but any zone that lets you do the awesomest thing that I've done in WOW in a long time (You all better know what I'm talking about) makes it the best. I plan to make sure to complete that quest chain on every higher level character I have.
Aspirisis Jan 12th 2011 10:55AM
So much for not spoiling! Oh well...the Battlemaiden quest chain easily makes this zone the most awesome in the game.

I hated/ am still hating Vash'jir. I am about 2/3 of the way through it so at least it will end soon. I went through Hyjal first because, well, I had heard of it before. So now I am slogging through Vash mainly for the achievement. It turns out I don't like questing in three dimensions. (Although some may argue that we sort of do that already now that we can fly almost everywhere, but I'm not one of those people.) The quests are interesting but I just really hate having to work so hard to complete them.

So tedious.
If I never have to kill another Naga again it will be too soon. Just when you thought that you must've killed all the Naga on Azeroth, you get sent to another area where yet again you get to kill more Naga.
On the plus side however I have started to tackle it again with another toon, and I will say its much better now that the opening week rush is over, however the Naga problem remains.

I loathe the area. I went through it on my main, and then to Hyjal, and felt like an idiot for starting there. Then on my next 80 I skipped it completely and will probably only go there to find the ToT entrance.

Don't be hatin' on them Zelda water temples! Best game ever.
Please realize I say that after realizing I have spent 20x as much play time on WoW haha

Zelda rules, but seriously? The Water Temple? That's hell, man. Whatever I do, one key eludes me and sends me searching through the whole thing...

I don't have a problem with Vashj'ir, however the stopgap laptop I've been using since my Alienware's nigh-irreplaceable videocard overheated and died, does have problems with it. MAJOR problems.
The water effect combined with the full terrain means that I basically have to put an icepack on top of the computer to keep the processor from overheating and causing the computer to hard lock. I'll be REALLY glad when I get my tax refund and can then get a new computer.

I adore Vashj'ir (Uldum is the only zone I like more, just because I'm a sucker for anything cat or Egyptian), but for the first few quests I had read trouble. However, as soon as I got my 3D bearings and got it back into my head that I was no longer invincible, it was great fun.
WildYaks Jan 12th 2011 11:24AM
I actually find Uldum much less awe-inspiring than Vashj'ir. There are some neat quests but the storyline associated with the zone is fairly lame. I don't feel as connected. Kill these, help so-and-so, go check out this temple. I'm only halfway through, so maybe that will change.
Maccabeus Jan 12th 2011 2:23PM
It should, espcially if you're an Indiana Jones fan =)

Dunno, definitely better than Hyjal. Hyjal is somewhat boring. And I never had any problems with mobs attacking from above/below in Vash'jir. And about bad gearing up... what are you talking about, you get two blues in the first 15 minutes! Rating the zones from the most liked to least liked of 81-85 content, I'd say that best is the Twilight Highlands, followed by Vash'jir, Hyjal, Deepholm and Uldum. I'm just really not into deserts.
jealouspirate Jan 12th 2011 11:28AM
I adored every moment of Vashj'ir, and found Hjal pretty boring.
Grizor Jan 12th 2011 10:34PM
Funny, i concider Vash'jir one of the most annoying maps of cata.
Only Deepholm is even worse.
Uldum, that's a fun map to quest in.

Aw, I'm sorry, Elizabeth!

At first I hated it. The whole 3d movement thing bothered me, and getting constantly ganked was pretty annoying. Only until I was just about done did I really appreciate the beauty of the zone.
I started there so that I could get a jump start on Earthen Ring rep so I could get my tabbard asap. As a tank, I really want the tanking enchant.
I'm glad to be finished with the zone, and will not be going back on any other characters, unless they're also tanks.
