Special version of the Cataclysm LP now available on iTunes

Yeah, so anyway, this doesn't work so well via text. But good news -- you can now enjoy it digitally in a way that doesn't involve my converting sound to text! The Cataclysm LP soundtrack -- 17 epic cuts full of "dun" and "bah" -- is now available at the iTunes store. And if that's not enough, you get all sorts of awesome bonus content. So says Blizzard:
Want to bring the music from the latest World of Warcraft expansion with you anywhere you go? The World of Warcraft: Cataclysm soundtrack is now available as an iTunes LP from the iTunes Store, featuring 17 eminently epic tracks as well as special bonus content including artwork, liner notes, and behind-the-scenes interviews. If you previously purchased a copy of the Cataclysm soundtrack album from iTunes prior to the release of this special LP version, don't worry -- you'll be able to receive the bonus content at no additional charge.
For more information or to purchase the Cataclysm soundtrack LP, visit the iTunes Store.

The article says "Read More". Like a sucker I clicked.
I thought there would be a chorus or something...
"whooooooosh bah bah bahh bah bahhhh BAH".... that's it?
jose Jan 12th 2011 3:06PM
huh this is kind of silly as you can extract the MP3 for free from the game files using MPQEditor.
I know I did it on the first day as I wanted to long 12mn intro music on my IPOD.
Hivetyrant Jan 12th 2011 3:34PM
Did you even read the article? I mean, I know it was REALLY long, but I think if you put the time in, you would see why this (to some) is better than extracting the files yourself...
jose Jan 12th 2011 3:44PM
I have all the files (ALL of them!) and I can sort out those I value the most.
How is it better to pay for something free? yeah maybe if you want to pay for bonuses, i don't.

I'm guessing that these are some kind of special re-mastered versions or something that you wouldn't find in the game.
Meh...whatever. I'll stick with the in-game music that I can extract for free rather than give Steve Jobs and Activi$ion money that I could spend on munchies for instance-running. :-)

As someone who loves the music, and has the soundtracks (not this one or the limited edition boxed set they sold awhile back) the files in the MPQ's tend to be for zones and areas, and are chopped up. The new music for SW, for example, is in 4 or 5 pieces. A zone might have it's music in 4-6 files meant for looping depending on where you are.
The soundtracks they put out are "complete" versions. I say "complete" because they are complete only in the fact that they do not start or stop suddenly. There is a ton of music never put on the soundtracks that are in the game.

The point of this is the "ITunes LP" feature, which is the equivalent of buying a 2 Disc DVD rather than a regular 1 Disc DVD. Yes, the music is all music that can be downloaded for free, but the point of this is the "bonus" you get from the ITunes LP.

@FVA
Why are you so awesome?
Oh, and where's my weekly dose of the dark and delicious side of Spiritual Guidance?
fenofwarcraft Jan 12th 2011 3:11PM
this should have come with my $80 collector's edition! bollocks!!
Josin Jan 12th 2011 3:22PM
Is this different than the CE soundtrack?
Arednel Jan 12th 2011 3:42PM
My CE had a 17 track CD in it, first thing I checked when I read the tweet this morning.
Sadistic4 Jan 12th 2011 3:47PM
Not going to lie, this pisses me the F*** off. Why DIDN'T this come with the CE? yeah we got the CD, and the artbook, and a pet, but christ sake, it was 80 dollars, then a month later this comes out?? I'm not buying it just for that reason. I shouldnt HAVE to buy it, i should already have it.
dragnmastr85 Jan 12th 2011 3:58PM
a bit disappointed with this, myself. why is it that I shell out 80 bucks to get all the goodies only to find that someone took a bite out of my soundtrack in an effort to bolster their profit margins later on.
this is no different than the "directors cut extreme ultimate" nonsense they pull with films.
Gossamer Jan 12th 2011 4:10PM
I agree, I'm a little miffed. The soundtrack was one of the major reasons I bought the CE. It'd be nice if we could also get the special content, but such is life.
Avan Jan 12th 2011 4:19PM
You know what my CE came with? A soundtrack with 17 tracks, and a little sheet of paper giving thanks and notable musicians. An artbook only featuring artwork you could find for free on Blizzard's site. A DVD that pretty much restates every blue post before Cataclysm's launch.
The CE just failed on every front and I'm really not surprised Blizzard would come up with a way to both screw their fans and also milk them for more money. Bollocks indeed.
deweymaverick Jan 12th 2011 4:42PM
did yours somehow not have a copy of the soundtrack in the box?
InfernalRain Jan 12th 2011 6:46PM
And this is why you dont buy CE of things.....
Eccentor Jan 12th 2011 9:29PM
I'm furious that I bought the CE and it only contained the content it promised! How dare Blizzard create new content and not give it to me?! As an owner of a "collector's edition", I am entitled to all content, whether it already exists or not. I can't afford for them to keep creating things i just can't live without!

"If you previously purchased a copy of the Cataclysm soundtrack album from iTunes prior to the release of this special LP version, don't worry -- you'll be able to receive the bonus content at no additional charge."
How? There aren't any links, instructions or otherwise obvious means to do so in iTunes...
Dan Jan 12th 2011 4:35PM
You probably just need to "Check For Available Downloads" in iTunes.
