Idk, I kind of got the impression that they were. Why is the "Mac" guy young and debatable good looking, with casual clothing, while the "PC" guy is old, fat and wears a terrible suit? Sure, they are talking about the system itself, but the fact that they "humanize" the system with these particular images is (not that subtely) saying that this is the kind of person who uses a Mac, and this is the kind of person who uses a PC. I have a Mac laptop that I quite like, but the commercials have always annoyed me quite a lot. I think those commercials were the first "_____ product is better than ____ product" commercials I ever saw on a Canadian channel - previously all of those kind of "Quiznos is better than Subway", "Advil is better than Tylenol" stuff was only on the American channels, and the Canadian stuff was all "The next leading brand" or "Those other guys" which I like a lot better.
