The Queue: Know what's better than a million dollars?

That's right: the entire screenplay for The Social Network for free. A perfect companion to the DVD or Blu-ray that I hope you're planning on buying/watching.
BlindWorg asked:
So, when the next tier of raiding is launched, how it affects what gear we can by with justice/valor points? Will it be like Wrath that we can buy the the items that cost valor points now with justice points when it happens or how does it happen?
In 4.1:
- JP items from 4.0 will still cost JP.
- VP items from 4.0 will cost JP instead.
- Items new to 4.1 will cost VP.
Caallis asked:
Any word on a new Caverns of Time instance?
We're getting a CoT: War of the Ancients raid, we're just not sure when. Looks like 4.2 or later.
Puffcake asked:
Question: What is the deal with spellpower? I thought it was going away with Cataclysm, but I still see it on gear, so I'm a bit confused. Is this something that should be pursued instead of intellect for damage-dealing casters? Is it worth stacking? Or, at the very least, could someone direct me to a decent explanation of what's what? Thanks!
Spellpower as a stat is gone on every item except weapons, trinkets, and some low-level "of the _____" items. It was kept on weapons to help give casters that same kind of boost that melee players get when they get a new weapon. You won't really need to look for it or stack it, since you get all of your other spellpower from intellect on your gear anyway. It's just a nice boost when you get a new weapon or trinket.
Sulwyn asked:
Why hasn't Blizzard posted the winners of the 2010 Holiday Card and Holiday Dessert Contests yet? Shouldn't they have announced them before the holidays?
Also, whatever happened to that writing contest they announced back in June of last year? Will we ever see the outcome of that?
Is it due to the: a.) absurd amount of entries they get for these contests; b.) more important things to work on; c.) lack of adequate judging staff; d.) having a hard time contacting the actual winners to confirm addresses, etc.; or e.) none of the above?
I haven't heard anything about the holiday contests, but the writing contest had its winners announced pre-BlizzCon. They're not available to read yet, but at least the winners were announced. As for the reasons why contest announcements can take a while, well, I imagine it's a combination of all the things you said, but I'm not on the Blizzard community team, so I couldn't tell you.
I'm definitely looking forward to reading the winning entries for the writing contest, though -- I know the first-place winner, and I can't even read his story until Blizzard publishes it on the site!

Will we be able to save up valor points now to spend on new gear in 4.1? or will the VP in our bags turn into JP?
Holycow Jan 14th 2011 11:04AM
What about the VP we have on hand? Will we be able to immediately buy T12 gear or will they be downgraded to justice points?
kingoomieiii Jan 14th 2011 11:10AM
From what I understand, your VP will be converted to JP on 4.1 patch day.
Jason Jan 14th 2011 11:10AM
I seem to recall seeing something when they announced the JPs and VPs to the effect that when a new tier of VP gear is added your existing VPs will be converted to JPs. Same goes for Conquest Points turning into Honor when the next PVP Season kicks off.

Thank you Mr. Sacco, but I must politely decline your offer on the grounds that Facebook is pure evil.

It's ok, Grovin...you don't have to watch it. I can explain it for you. Take 30 minutes of fratboy caricatures going, "Grr! We're mad but we're not gonna do anything about it!" Intersperse 30 minutes of people talking at a table, explaining the premise behind each upcoming scene. Then sprinkle in some actual plot and wait for everyone to rave about what a wonderful movie you made!

MC - If/when you pass through Chicago, remind me that I've got the first round, seeing as how you just saved me nine bucks. :)

MySpace and Facebook have increased my social interaction by roughly 1000% due to severe anxiety issues that arise in face-to-face scenarios. Please take your righteous attitude (or possibly misinterpreted sarcasm) elsewhere.
No, I didn't type too many zeros.
DavidiousofAzeroth Jan 14th 2011 11:39AM
@(Cutiai) With all the well marks reviews on several big review sites, I am shocked at how much you talk it down. I found it rather interesting. Yes there were bits that I didn't care to see in the order they put them, but still it was decent. I would recommend it.
8.2 out of 10 is a pretty high rating for IMDB. I rarely see anything over a 7 from them.

Man, I wish I was cool and non-conformist enough to hate on Facebook.
Oh wait, I moved to Scotland for three years and if it wasn't for Facebook I would have lost touch with all of my friends back in the states, and vice-versa when I moved back.
http://www.youtube.com/user/Socialnomics09#p/u/7/sIFYPQjYhv8
You can hate on social networks all you want, I know it's tempting what with so many people liking them and your "everyone likes it, I MUST HATE IT" attitude clearly being a major force here, but think of yourself as that old man fifty years ago gripping about how them darn movin' picture machines are silly and you're waiting for the fad to die out.
Drakkenfyre Jan 14th 2011 11:57AM
I cannot stand Facebook. I hate Facebook. The guy behind it is a total douchbag (read some of his quotes) and became rich by exploiting the users. They are untrustworthy of your privacy, constantly have problems with leaked info, and care absolutely nothing for the user, only for the money it brings them. Not to mention the links (proven, not rumored) that the CIA and other governmental agencies have with it, for "data gathering" purposes.
Going to see a movie based on Facebook? Never going to happen.
Grovinofdarkhour Jan 14th 2011 11:57AM
Loop - sorry to hear it. Maybe "pure" was too strong; maybe they're just "mostly" evil. I'm all for the social interaction component and its inherent benefits, if that's all it was, but it's not.
I've had not less than 15 friends/family members have an email sent to me, addressing me by name and "inviting" me to join Facebook, so this company already has my email associated with my first and last name, without my consent. I have no relationship whatsoever with this company and that's already more information than I ever wanted them to have about me. They are "entitled" to NOTHING about me. I'm not giving it, and I'd appreciate if my family and friends didn't give it, either. I'm a huge believer in personal privacy, and it seems that the "Facebook era" has convinced a lot of people that it's their constitutional right to find me and bother me, regardless of my own feelings on the matter. So every time I hear that some past friend or ex-girlfriend from high school (that I don't really want to reconnect with) is bothering my family members trying to get in touch with me, and every time I see another article like
http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/money/facebook-to-share-your-info-for-money-april-27-20101272464814471
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304772804575558484075236968.html
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38463013/ns/technology_and_science-security/
...it reminds me how happy I am with my decision to not have an account there.
If it has had real benefits for you in your own life, that's great. But please, don't be this company's puppet, don't "push" others to join, and don't give them "the dirt" on your friends or family unless those people have specifically said it's OK with them first.

Adding to Rin's comment, I'd like to say that MySpace/Facebook have proven useful for the four years I spent stationed 3 states away from my family and friends.
They also proved useful for the 11 months I spent in training approximately 7 states away.
They're still useful when I'm within the same state but easily 1 to 2 hours away, and I'm sure they'll prove their worth even more if I were to be deployed, since the Department of Defense have since sanctioned their use on government computers.
You cannot convince me that phone calls and e-mails are "sufficient" for keeping in touch with more than your immediate family and absolute closest of friends.
loop_not_defined Jan 14th 2011 12:05PM
Grovin, so your main issue with Facebook is that it's users have your e-mail and...used it? Should I rail against Hotmail, if that is the case? Gmail? Perhaps I should begin picketing in front of all the utility companies that send me helpful (but PURE EVIL) reminders that a payment is due.
lownwolf Jan 14th 2011 12:06PM
whether you like facebook or hate it, it's kind of a moot point. The movie is a great movie, the purpose of which is not to just sit around and praise facebook for a couple hours. It doesn't try to convince you to use facebook. In fact, I believe there are only 2 or 3 shots that actually include a picture of the actual facebook page.....
Whether you're a die-hard facebook'er or you don't have one at all, Facebook, as a company, is a crazy anomaly that has created one of the richest, youngest, ceo's of our time (if not all), and the "story" (be it embellished or not) is an interesting and entertaining one.
plus Aaron Sorkin is god.
Drakkenfyre Jan 14th 2011 12:06PM
Rin, did you consider that some people hate it for more than that it's popular?
Have you checked into their privacy violation record?
"Oops, hey guys, we leaked your data. It's cool, tho, right?"
"Oops, hey, data leaked again. We got it fixed this time, don't worry."
"Hey, data leaked again, we swear we thought we got this fixed, it's going to get fixed.:
"Your data got leaked again. Everyone now knows the most embarressing thing you placed on your profile. We got this, don't worry, it'll get fixed."
"Well, seems like we're stupid, and all game links expose your user ID, so everything you do can be traced back."
"Really, we're going to clean this up, and won't share your data anymore."
"Oh, hey, if you close your account, we're not really going to close it. We're still going to use it for marketing data."
"Ok, we'll close your account, but only after 14 days, then it's just suspended. It's still not closed."
"Ok, we'll give you an option after 2 weeks to delete your account, then spam you to reopen it."
You are a gold mine to Facebook. Your information is probably sold to a hundred companies. All that spam you get from your registered address? Guess where it comes from? Those "accidental" leaks occur way too often. And the company has some shady dealings going on with governmental agencies like the CIA.
Lagavulin Jan 14th 2011 12:06PM
There's nothing more anti-Facebook than the movie itself. It exposes Zuckerberg for what he is--a cheat, a liar, and a fraud!
loop_not_defined Jan 14th 2011 12:08PM
Before you try to correct me on the differences of priviledged use, I'd like to point out that every single Facebook e-mail you receive is spurred by their user, not Facebook. It's really no different than the examples I just used.
loop_not_defined Jan 14th 2011 12:13PM
Drakkenfyre, what spam are you referring to? I'm nowhere near a new user to Facebook, and my e-mail receives no such spam. o_O
Perhaps Facebook is just a convenient scapegoat. Shocking!
