The Queue: I don't want to go outside anymore

It snowed and then it rained and then the rain froze and now it's slippery and I don't want to go outside no more and then I tried to go outside to buy food and almost fell and I don't want to go outside anymore.
Rob asked:
Why does Blizzard hate the new Alliance races? You just said it yourself, the Gilnean story disappears right away. I rolled a draenei back in BC because I can't play a character that isn't engulfed in lore, and as soon as that expansion ended, they too disappeared entirely. In Cataclysm, you do see some draenei, but it seems forced, as I can't imagine a draenei pirate captain like in Vash'jir. The only draenei I ever really see are Broken with the Earthen Ring, and the only worgen I see are running around Stormwind doing quests like me.
Blood elves and goblins, however, are everywhere.
I think it's less about how much Blizzard cares about the Alliance races and more that it just might be a different mindset to incorporate the worgen. The draenei had always felt out of place anywhere but Outland to me, but slowly and surely Blizzard has been adding in something for them to do.
Goblins and blood elves have very defined roles in Cataclysm . The goblins exist to strengthen the Horde in a very goblin-esque way -- slap in some crazy machinery, give them a little humor to work with, and you're good to go. The blood elves' role this time around is that of the Reliquary, the Horde version of the Explorer's League, set out to uncover the history and arcane treasures from all over Azeroth.
The worgen had one of the coolest purposes in the game ... for about 10 levels. The Worgen Liberation guys in Silverpine and Hillsbrad are awesome, and if you're a Forsaken, you get to see first hand how great of an adversary they are. Unlike the blood elves and goblins, however, the worgen realization took a nosedive after those excellent starting experiences and the sparse population of worgen around the world. Maybe we'll get further information and story in a later patch.
Krsnik asked:
So is there really any point to working on Gilnean reputation beyond counting towards the exalted reputation achievements?
It's only at friendly, but the tabard is pretty neat! It's also a free reputation for the achievements, yes.

I've never really been one for the lore, but having read The Shattering, I really enjoyed that part of Anduin's story. The book as a whole was not really that good, though.
I liked Anduin for one very specific reason: He's going to be the king his father couldn't be. I don't hate Varian as much as I did before, but his conflict always felt personal and that he just wanted to beat up orcs because they were there to beat up and were maybe mean to him once. Political conflicts between huge factions are so much more interesting and tension-filled than personal conflicts. Anduin can be a king who deals with the enemies of the Alliance as well as the Horde through a king's eyes diplomatically, as opposed to the built-up aggro of Varian. That's just my opinion, anyway. Anduin is just a more compelling character to me because of his potential.

Rob complained that there weren't many worgen around Azeroth. To that, I would say, "They're all just in human form."

I'm just glad I don't have to hear "Get gabbin' or get goin'" anymore. It was cute, but it just sort of grated on my nerves.
Jestin Jan 18th 2011 11:16AM
That's a good point. Having completed the Cape of Stranglethorn Loremaster achievement last night, I can say that there are more Worgen out there than people may realize, and they are definitely hiding in human form.

I seem to remember that Blizzard copyrighted "Cataclysm" around this time two years ago. Any similar news on the next expansion?

I don't remember another race getting their own comic either. ;) http://www.dccomics.com/wildstorm/comics/?cm=16118

And lets face it... the Worgen were pretty much all holed up and contained until very recently. They simply haven't had time to spread around the world in large numbers. contrast that to the goblins, who have had some pretty choice real estate around the world for a very long time... while they joined the horde recently, they have that benefit of already being established, lore-wise.

Why is everyone forgetting about eastern plaguelands when it comes to worgen (which is arguably one of the best zones in the game)?
Montas Jan 18th 2011 12:40PM
they are also in blasted lands, at south they have some quests about curing that area. There is one mad worgen shaman or something. You should check that out
Nevbit Jan 18th 2011 12:55PM
I thought I saw some Worgen NPCs in Duskwood talking about trying to cure the feral Worgen out there. I was just passing thorough, so I didn't pick up the quests. It seems to me that they're out and about in the greater parts of Azeroth.

to expand upon Lykos4's comment. 75% of the Worgen starting zone has you running around dealing with these wolf-men who are hellbent on murdering and eating you and your family. It makes sense that the Gilneans would prefer to stay in human form because before they became Worgen they either fought or ran from them.

@Darky
From what I remember of EPL it follows the story of the Caravan owned run by a worgen woman. Just because theres a worgen running the quest hub doesn't mean that its worgen/Gilneas lore.

I feel like there are a lot of Worgen around the old world. It seems like almost anywhere there are goblins trying to exploit the environment there are Worgen fighting and sabotaging them (most recently in Felwood and the Blasted Lands as Montas mentioned). Now, I AM seeing it from the Horde side, so it may just seem like they are everywhere, but my poor little goblin shaman seems to run across Worgen almost every other zone.

I'm still looking forward to Blizzard's plans with The Park in Stormwind.
It's a Druid district...in a Human city. A Human city that now finds itself with mostly-Humans looking for a home. I highly doubt Blizzard is just going to leave one whole district destroyed. ;)
Joakim Jan 18th 2011 2:12PM
Oh yeah?
Anywhere *sniff sniff* I turn *harkle sniff sniff* there's a goblin from Brooklyn in my way *sniff harkle sniff*.
Seriously, whoever invented the worgen *harkle sniff sniff* sniffing should be sho... be told not to do it again *Sniff*.
Then again, it kinda grows on you.
*sniff sniff. Harkle*

Loop, they originally said Worgen would get a district in SW. Then they changed it to Darnassus. When someone asked why the change, they said "Fitting the Worgen into their own section of SW just felt awkward."
So it's unlikely they will bring the part back as a Worgen section.
loop_not_defined Jan 18th 2011 3:20PM
Drakkenfyre, was this before or after we found out they were destroying the Park?
I can see how shoe-horning Gilneans into existing Stormwind districts could seem awkward, had nothing been destroyed, but giving "Humans" their own district in Darnassus (and conversely, Night Elves their own district in Stormwind) seems far more awkward.
Also, I simply cannot imagine what they *would* bring the Park back as, if not a Gilnean district. The site was already dedicated to foreigners.
followthategg Jan 18th 2011 6:15PM
Not to mention the worgen are featured in both dead mines and shadowfang keep.
KLRMNKY Jan 18th 2011 6:52PM
@followthategg
One worgen boss in deadmines, compared to all of the goblins, not to mention the goblin boss. As for SFK, what worgen? The closest that you get is "ghost worgen" summoned by one boss and unless you play as Alliance, you won't see anymore. To say that they are featured in both of those dungeons is laughable, but if you are talking about pre-cata SFK, yes worgen are featured very heavily in that. But cata-SFK? They are all dead.
Drakkenfyre Jan 18th 2011 7:56PM
Loop, it was announced a long, long time ago. Before the park being destroyed was known.
"Worgen will be given a district in SW"
is as close as their announcement was that I can remember.
Drakkenfyre Jan 18th 2011 7:56PM
Followthategg.
Yes, one Worgen boss.
And to get to him you have to pass about 30 Goblins, not counting the Goblins that run by you in the refinery that don't attack. Or the Goblin boss.
Deadmines always had Goblins in the mast room, but now there are tons more Goblins there.
