This video has one heck of a cast of characters. The machinima itself was created by RavenSylphe. That alone is a huge plus; Raven does some amazing work. The vocals, however, are performed by eight wonderful folks who you might know from other music parodies. The singers, in order of appearance, are EmberIsolte, Letomi, Sharm, PvPSiennah, Gigi, Rawrbug, Lihoification, and Ariel. The name of this parody is Run Deathwing Run.
The video is a parody of Run Devil Run by Girls' Generation. Of course, those of us in America might be more familiar of the cover by Kesha.
Overall, this video is fun. I think it helps to know the source material, though, to help put context to the music and parody's structure. I think this will probably be one of this year's largest parody collaborations, considering the size of the group. My hat's off to the team for their work. Interested in the wide world of machinima? I thought it was fun :3 It sounded weird at first in a couple of places but after I watched it another billions times I got over it. Damn I love Liho's voice!
I could only watch it once, but I did make it all the way through. And I agree 500% about Lihoification's voice. Why I hadn't heard from her before, I don't know ~ but I'm off to find more of her work.
I must agree about Liho, as well! It even made me click around on her youtube page, and she's got some GREAT pipes!
The video as a whole was ok - it seems terribly difficult to throw something like this together. I'm guessing everyone had to record everything individually, and there's a pretty big talent-gap between the performers. EmberIsolte and Sharm were solid as usual, and the newcomer Liho is my new favorite!
I really loved the video, and EmberIsolte, Sharm, and Lihoification (whom I've never heard before and I have to admit that she has a beautifully powerful voice) did not fail to disappoint, I find that the others ruined the song in their solo parts. Now, I know nothing about singing (I'm terrible at it myself), but there were a couple of vocalists that I'm sure were painfully out of tune in places, which, paired with the three gorgeous voices I mentioned above, almost completely ruined it. My personal opinion would be that having those three alone would have made the track twice as wonderful.
I meant that three of those vocalists have voices that are usually great and I always listen to anything that they make - and in this video, those three did not fail to disappoint.
Can't say I liked this. This felt like too many cooks in a kitchen, plus the lyrics often sounded odd with the rythm, and I think there were too many different voices for the key to suit all of them. Though I probably would have hated the original song way more than the few faults I found with this.
Given the theme of the vid, I don't think the "too many cooks" criticism is valid. With everyone from Varian to Garrosh also chasing after Deathy, the more voices you could get united in purpose to take Deathy down, the better. Makes it sound like "you've pissed off the world and now we're coming for you" rather than "eh, you pissed of three of us, shake in fear now..."

Here's a version that should work for Germany/EU. Because no one wants to listen to Ke$ha.

I loved the video, though. Gorgeous.

"...did not fail to disappoint."
You might want to try that again. ;) Because I agree with your entire post's *intended* meaning. I think.

The others did, unsurprisingly, disappoint.

Oooooookay.

If they did not fail to disappoint, that means they succeeded to disappoint.
If they succeeded to disappoint, then you are disappointed.
Perhaps "did not fail to impress" would be more appropriate. Or "did not disappoint".

You're kidding. ¬_¬ English is supposed to be my mother tongue, and yet I made that terrible grammar mistake and completely failed to notice.
I should no longer be called English.
*walks away in shame*

Well, at least the video itself was good. :)

Actually, really nice timing, since SNSD is releasing Run Devil Run in Japan soon =). GJ on the vocals.
drumwiz86 Jan 18th 2011 1:08PM
Run Devil Run is only just set to release in Japan? wow.
I have to say I found this video highly creative, well thought out and genuinely performed.
Saeadame Jan 18th 2011 1:14PM
Well, SNSD only started releasing stuff in Japanese about a year ago. Run Devil Run will be their 4th? Japanese single.
It's been out in Korean in Japan for a while, obviously.
drumwiz86 Jan 18th 2011 1:22PM
Oh, recorded in Japanese? That makes more sense.

OMG, kpop fans on a wow blog! My life is complete now xD

Enjoyable. I thought "Uh, oh" when I saw Gigi's name.
Voices were good.
They were normal
normal
normal
autotuned
normal
normal
Guess who the autotuned was?
It's a bit jarring to hearing normal singing, maybe even light autotuning (that works well) then hear Gigi's regular, autotuned echoing voice.

I didn't realize how much I disliked Goblin teeth until now :S Other than that pretty good vid.
Arrowsmith Jan 18th 2011 1:24PM
Ok, I'm now confused...you linked something being sung by Ke$ha...and I liked it..
Is it possible to like a song of hers?
