Tabards tabards tabards tabards ...
Roguesan asked:
I've been doing the dailies in Tol Barad for a couple of weeks now; I reckon that spectral horse will match my mage's (eventual) tier 11 quite nicely, and hopefully by the time I manage to claw my way exalted with Baradin's Wardens, it will coincide with having managed to slap together a gear set.
My problem is this: Having been randomly browsing through the achievements list last night looking for a handful that could be worked on during the course of my day-to-day stuff, I found the one for completing 100 dailies in Tol Barad -- with the counter set at 0/100.
What gives?
A lot of the achievement counters are broken for one reason or another. Also, you cannot see how many battles of Tol Barad you've won on the achievement, which makes it a fun guessing game of when you will hit the magic 100 wins mark. Just one of those little annoying bugs, I'd guess.
Zaszh asked:
Where do you get tabards to wear while you're leveling and when should you wear them? The city ones for 1-60 ... then what in BC and Wrath? What is the tabard progression for leveling?
Many tabards that you can purchase from the particular faction's quartermaster give reputation for every mob kill in an instance. For instance, the newly implemented Orgrimmar tabard will give you reputation with Orgrimmar in dungeons from levels 1-60 and then in Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm dungeons. Instances in The Burning Crusade work a bit differently -- each dungeon has a reputation that is associated with it, earning you reputation with that faction instead of the tabard you are wearing. For instance, The Arcatraz rewards reputation with The Sha'tar.
If you don't wear a tabard in vanilla dungeons, you just don't get any reputation. If you don't wear a tabard in Burning Crusade dungeons, you still get reputation for that dungeon's associated faction. No tabard in Wrath dungeons nets you a "base" faction for your particular side -- it was the Horde Expedition for the Horde and the Alliance Vanguard for the Alliance. No tabard in Cataclysm nets you nothing in dungeons.
Breakdown:
- 1-60 dungeons Home city tabards in dungeons
- 60-70 The Burning Crusade Reputation/faction based on dungeon, not tabard-based
- 70-80 Wrath of the Lich King Home city tabards, Wrath faction tabards (Wyrmrest, Argents, etc.) in dungeons
- 80-85 Cataclysm Home city tabards, Cataclysm faction tabards (Therazane, Ramkahen, etc.) in dungeons
Kaahn Stewart asked:
Vol'jin or Zaela for Warchief?
I really hope we haven't seen the last of Zaela. She's awesome. I hope she gets as much attention as old Saurfang did and we get another cool orc leader out of Twilight Highlands. I've always seen Vol'jin as a supporting character, and he hasn't done too much to move from that place in my heart. Zaela could become a really awesome character if they give her some more story.

Is it possible to get the Elementium Vein right outside to the left of Ironclad Garrison? I see that vein everyday with miners trying to get it but failing.
Roll a warrior.
Tom asked:
How come Cataclysm didn't have any 78-80 starting zones?
Blizzard has stated specifically before that Cataclysm is itemized for players 80 and above. The first zones, Hyjal and Vashj'ir, are meant to be completed by characters at level 80. Pushing it down to 78 would have thrown off the leveling curve for the relatively few new zones in Cataclysm, unlike Wrath, which had more content than technically needed to get you from 68-80. And frankly, with all that Wrath content, you shouldn't have a problem getting to 80 before venturing into Cataclysm. Basically, starting from 78 in Cataclysm threw off the leveling progression.

From what I've read and aware of, there is a automatic detection system on Blizzards end that will suspend accounts if it is suspected that the account is compramised when the account logs in from a different location far away from the previous location in a short amount of time. This system can sometimes be triggered if the player is using a WoW tunnelling service (e.g. Lowerping) and going through different proxy servers (rather than sticking to one) to connect to the game servers.
Now my question is... As I live in Australia and my latency varies up and down from the 400 range, if I use a WoW tunnelling service to connect to the WoW servers and then use my Battle.net account to log into the Starcraft 2 SEA (South East Asia) server where I play a fair bit on and isn't supported with the tunnelling service, is their a chance my account may falsely be suspended?
I guess I can hazard a guess that the SEA, US, and EU servers are seperate (due to Real I.D. lists not being shared across regions) and not much to worry about, but if I were to log into the US battle.net servers for Starcraft 2 to play custom games, would it cause problems with the US WoW servers?
Sorry as I know it may be a better suited question for the Customer Support forum but seeming as I can probably wedge it into WoW related (I don't exactly want my WoW account suspended and jump through the hoops...), I thought I might ask here for anyone who may have experience with this before asking for assistance in that sorry state of a forum.
Thanks :D

I don't know if that would set it off, being on different servers, but something tells me it would.
Your best bet would be to post on the Customer Service forum, and ask the same question.
Hanak Jan 19th 2011 11:17AM
As far as I'm aware, that automatic detection is bypassed while you have an Authenticator, but IANAL and YMMV. (+ whatever other acronym that might fit)
Calisim Jan 19th 2011 11:28AM
I have a normal authenticator on my account. When I travelled over the holidays, and connected from my relatives' home, my account was temporarily suspended. I had to jump through a few hoops to reset it, but it only cost me about 15 minutes, and didn't require talking to anyone to get it fixed.

@Drakkenfyre & Hanak
Well I do have an Authenticator linked to the account but it seems I may be better off just posting in the Customer Service forum anyway and cross my fingers that it isn't bumped off the first couple pages from unrelated topics just so I can get a confirmation.

Having an authenticator does not necessarily mean the automatic disabling of your account is bypassed.
Someone attempted to hijack my account a couple of months ago, but they failed because I have an authenticator. I went ahead and changed e-mails and passwords to deepen my protection as Blizzard suggested and was not hassled after that.
Then my account was automatically frozen to protect it. I thought I was being harassed again, but it turns out that Blizzard's computers saw me sign in from a different ISP when I moved from home to school. (I get a little bit of play time in the morning and lunch sometimes as a teacher.)
When talking with customer service, it appears this happened because my account was still under an elevated level of monitoring due to the earlier hacking attempt. A quick talk with the tech with me confirming my ID and the new ISP as OK, and I was back to playing again with the new ISP on the OK-to-play list.
So at least under situations of heightened security, having an authenticator will not stop automatic account locks for your protection.
I have no idea if having an authenticator would prevent these automatic locks in other situations.

@Debesun,
I don't about some of the other tunneling services out there but I have been using WTFast for months now and have never had an issue with bans. (I live on the west coast of the U.S. but play on an east coast server. I'm fairly certain that the reason for that is WTFast has an option when connecting to log in to the game using your IP address, which theoretically prevents your account being seen as logging in from many different places. Hope this helps.

I had that problem when I traveled on vacation from Brazil to the US; they suspended my account. But changing my password was all it took, both when I arrived and when I left. Not a big deal, really.
Tuscansalami Jan 19th 2011 11:37AM
I just tried out a tunnelling service myself (also from Australia, incidentally), and it's not as bad as you may fear.
When first logging on under the new connection, I received a message telling me that my account was temporarily locked (not suspended!), and it pointed me to manually reset my password on battle.net. On doing so, the email address I use solely for my WoW account got sent a link to proceed with the password reset, answered a secret question, and basically confirmed that it was actually me trying to log into my account from a different location. After that, I could continue to log in without any further problem, other than I keep forgetting I'd changed my password the first time I type it in. :)

Same thing happened to me as Calisim.
I drove down to my visit my parents in another state over the holidays and after setting up my laptop to use their WiFi and logging into WoW to check my auctions, I was told that my account was suspended due to "suspicious activity." I have an authenticator attached to the account.
I had to log into BattleNet and answer some security questions to get my account out of lockdown. Took me about twenty minutes.
Xylaria Jan 19th 2011 12:49PM
I had this issue over the holidays. If you plan on doing this frequently, as I was, simply call them and ask them to deactivate the security lock. They'll gladly do so, as they did for me.

When I traveled abroad for the holidays and logged in (US account logging in from Europe), I just had to go click on a link in the email account associated with my Battle.net account and I was up and running. Pretty easy overall.

i had my account disabled when i logged in from a library across town, and had to go through a bit of brouhaha to re enable it, but it only took about 30 minutes to get back on, and now i can log in from there just fine. so if your account does get disabled, you should be fine, and should be able to continue logging on there.

Here's my answer to this. I live in New York and I just started College this year. On my down time I would play at the College on their open Wireless Internet. On the first night I got home and tried to log in and got an alert that said that my account had been suspended due to change in log in activity. It wasn't because I had been hacked it was just because I had logged in from a separate IP. All you have to do is go to your e-mail, unlock your account by changing the password because they automatically reset it for your accounts security. They don't generally suspend your account permanently and once you do it the first time the system will log you in as "IP Addresses and Location This Account Logs In From" and it should never do it again.

"Is it possible to get the Elementium Vein right outside to the left of Ironclad Garrison? I see that vein everyday with miners trying to get it but failing."
It's possible to get it on offense during TB, when you die around or in Ironclad Garrison. Only on offense though.

Also, anytime if you're a warrior.
Vladamyr Jan 19th 2011 11:27AM
Actually I have mined it successfully 4 times with my Paly. It involves jumping onto the bottom right edge of the hill it sits on. It seems to be random luck and sometimes mounting helps but you will occasionally be able to dismount or stick to a spot that is just barely above ground level and from there be able to mine it. I have not found an exact method to this yet but it always occurs at the bottom corner on the right side of the hill when facing it.
