Mad World has always been one of my favorite songs. It has a haunting, melancholy sound that appeals to me; the lyrics are poetic and beautifully written. It's understandable, then, that I was excited to see Brunhila'sWoW-themed version, Mad World of Warcraft Cataclysm. The video is okay. It's Brunhila's first video, and it does a fine job serving the song.
The music is really where Mad World of Cataclysm shines. She did a great job of keeping with the rhyme, meter, and feel of the original song. Her performance, however, is amazing. Brunhila really nailed the vocals in a way I wasn't expecting; I feel like she knocked it out of the park. I kind of wish she'd cover the original song, considering how much emotion she squeezes into the song. Interested in the wide world of machinima? I don't comment very often, but this is worth it. That was absolutely beautiful. Excellent voice from the singer, great lyrics, and a dwarf too(don't see too many of them in machinima). Even the video was good, despite quality issues which are easily overlooked.
I don't have "perfect pitch". What I DO have is 12 years of orchestral training behind me, and I can say with a certainty that no, they weren't. Mildly flat or sharp about three times, perhaps, but in this she quickly compensated to the point that it was barely noticeable - not bad at all for an amateur! Give this girl some voice instruction and watch out! One time she came in VERY flat but when the building progression began, you immediately noticed that it was purposeful in a sort of R&B/folksey fashion, which I found to be quite interesting, actually.
I think that the harmonizing could have been better and there could definitely have been a lot more emphasis (once more, with feeling!) behind it - but this isn't someone who's signed on with Arista or cutting a demo with this fun little piece. That doesn't make her any less enjoyable, and considering that she isn't TRYING to sound like she's a pro (unlike a few individuals in the past that have been featured here), it's actually quite refreshing to listen to!
Well, the video won't win any machinima awards, but her cover song of "Mad World" is absolutely epic. Great lyrics and vocals - she sounds like some sultry cabaret singer from the 1930's.
Very awesome! I actually restarted the song after the first few seconds ,thinking it would be the same lyrics but in fact they are new!
My only gripe is the way "mad world" is said. it could have sounded better, though i'm not sure how to express HOW. Still, just a minor gripe compared to the excellence of the song.

Bonus points for using a female dwarf in the video.
lomifeh Jan 21st 2011 2:16PM
That is her main. She is a female dwarf in game.

Not only a female dwarf - but a female dwarf ROGUE!
(well, she's dual-wielding daggers. I suppose she could be a hunter or warrior. But I'm sticking with rogue).

That's what I was going to say. That fact alone made me very happy and then, low and behold, it contained some really great, unique vocals as well.
I love to hear a voice that isn't the same ol' pop-female.
I'm grateful for this sweet little vid. :D

Female Dwarf ROGUE for that matter, one of the rarest class combos.

Good lyrics. But she pulled a lil bit of a taylor swift--most of her layers were off tune. I'm sure us perfect pitch people noticed it. Still, funny.
P.S.--from the diaphragm! with gusto!

Step up and make a song then.
This was amazing btw, so glad to hear some female vocals to something less...dance clubbish?

This is why I hate people who take their hobbies/professions too seriously.
An average joe like me didn't hear anything wrong with it.

Very nice, great visuals and awesome cover, great ending!
My only peeve.... www.fraps.com - Sorry if this is being nitpicky, it just kind of really bugs me looking out of place.
Otherwise, spot on video.
