WRUP: Some of this, some of that

Another week, another weekend. We've just about run out of patch 4.0.6 news for now, so it's a full weekend of rest and relaxation for most of the WoW Insider staff ... unless you count raiding and heroics as work. If so, we're busting our butts around here.
Alex Ziebart (@AlexZiebart): My Mass Effect obsession never ends. The release of the new Mass Effect: Evolution comic has me replaying the first game. The second one was certainly a better game, but the first one did a lot of awesome stuff that BioWare dumped for the sequel and that makes me sad. In WoW, more raiding and grinding of guild rep this weekend. Also, trying to get my prot warrior geared for heroics.
Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert): More raiding with the guildies, but I suspect that no small amount of my time is going to be eaten up by shoveling snow. Truly the devil's own task.
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey): I am going to venture in the exciting world of electrical wiring. I will try very hard not to set my house on fire. On the WoW front, more raiding on Sunday, but other than that, nothing too terribly exciting!
C. Christian Moore (@TheArenaGuy): I'm probably going to start playing some 5v5. My FRAPS has been buggy lately, drastically reducing my frame rates. I'm going to see if I can figure out what's wrong with it so I can record some games and get them up on the site. 5v5 is by far my favorite bracket and makes for some really interesting videos and commentary. By the way, I've been in love with making videos for the site lately.
Dan O'Halloran: I've been playing an unhealthy amounts of SOE's new Facebook game, Dungeon Overlord, and don't plan to stop. If you enjoyed Dungeon Keeper back in the day, you're gonna love this new game. In WoW, I'll be gearing up for heroics on my druid and leveling my enhancement shaman through the 40s.
Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb): I think I want to try to get my warlock to at least 75 this weekend so she can learn the next level of enchanting. Also going to start running some BC heroics for rep and pet/mount drops on my death knight. Yes, I am an achievement junkie. It is true.
Joe Perez (@Lodurzj): More heroics, trying to kick this lag issue in the rear and getting ready to spend a week with my godfather. We're going to hit some bars to check out some local musicians and get some playing time in together. Just something awesome about having family you can bust out the guitars with and just jam. Also getting ready for another awesome recording of Raid Warning this Sunday!
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra): I've finally started doing heroics, thanks to my amazing guildies. I also picked up Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, so I'll keep myself busy with that as well. Aside from that, it's drawing, drawing and more drawing.
Lisa Poisso (@emused): I'm finally getting that one-hour massage I've been rescheduling over and over since fall. I suspect that means I'll be too limp to level!
Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo): This weekend, I'm going to work on some art projects I've been meaning to do, as well as get some computer cleanup done. So much crap adds up in such a short period of time. Also, WoW, probably. Sunday is raid night after all.
Matt Low (@matticus): Spending some time on my shaman and paladin this week. I want to get some additional perspective on life as a ranged and melee player. Hoping that'll help me gain a better understanding so I can heal better. Think I'll watch some How I Met Your Mother and do some fishing at the same time.
Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel): Robiness, the newly-transferred tauren druid, has joined the <It came from the Blog> family of guilds on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H). Formerly known as Freja, she is going to try to reach 83 before the end of the weekend. When I'm not playing Roblin the goblin priestess or Robinemia the Forsaken mage or Robinemic the Forsaken huntress or ...

I transferred my NE druid, Druinn to a tauren recently myself, Robin. Kept the same name and he is also lvl 83 atm. Also, I love How I Met Your Mother and watched it this week. Its a good'un as they all are. I just wish Ted would meet their damn mother already. Show doesn't have to end, they could show some early dates or what not. Love it!

@Alex Ziebart. "has me replaying the first game. The second one was certainly a better game"
That's Blasphemy (Yes, Mass Effect 1 is a Holy artifact) to fans of the first Mass Effect, Saren Arterius alone makes ME1 better than ME2, not to mention the RPG system that was abandoned to turn it into a "Herp Derp" shooter!
Alex Ziebart Jan 21st 2011 9:42PM
Your opinion has been noted and discarded. :D

I guess maybe I feel this way because it's been a longer time since I played the first one, but I really enjoyed both games... a lot (of course, it IS Mass Effect...). I didn't find myself missing removed elements from the first game (like whatever the armor system was), but I was also on a lot of Vicodin at the time.
Kleptov Jan 21st 2011 10:36PM
Mordin Solus alone makes ME2 better than five ME1s (and I loved ME1!)
GerardthePriest Jan 21st 2011 10:44PM
Unfortunately I played ME2 before ME1, and as a result never got very far into ME1 - part of the whole appeal of ME2 was its incredibly streamlined gameplay, and playing ME1 with its armor and ammo and weapons and skill points reminded me of a Japanese RPG.

I can't wait for ME3 which should be this year. I heard about a mass effect movie too which should be awesome.

I played Mass Effect 2 first, then played Mass Effect after beating 2. The control scheme for 2 is vastly superior, as is the inventory.

lack of inventory you mean

"Lisa Poisso (@emused): I'm finally getting that one-hour massage I've been rescheduling over and over since fall. I suspect that means I'll be too limp to level!"
I could really use one of those! *stressed*

Although Mass Effect 2 happens to have better gameplay, Mass Effect 1 was vastly superior in atmosphere and story. I've played through ME1 more times then I can count, and the sights of the ancient skyscrapers of Feros (like in the picture) still amaze me. Also, remember the time when the citadel closes with Sovereign inside of it? And then Sheperd looks out of the elevator? I had the largest nerdgasm of my life.
ME1 rules.
Don't you forget that, Alex!
Alex Ziebart Jan 21st 2011 10:52PM
Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 are my favorite games ever. Period.
Me saying ME2 is better than ME1 isn't saying ME1 sucks. I'm just saying ME1 is my second favorite game ever made. :D
Adam Jan 21st 2011 11:14PM
Ah, touche. :)
I agree with you. Mass Effect 1 and 2 are both the best games of all time, and I guess no matter which order you choose to love them in, Mass Effect is still Mass Effect.
Cheers to Bioware for making some of the best games, well, ever.
Oteo Jan 21st 2011 11:08PM
I'm playing that Facebook game Dan mentioned because I'm unsubscribed from WoW right now (damn money and its sparseness). :l
Darkdust Jan 21st 2011 11:25PM
Very little game time this weekend, but what time I do have will mostly go towards levelling my 70 priest and a bit more rep grinding over on my hunter.
michaeljannino Jan 21st 2011 11:54PM
Alex, you and me are going to have a party of Mass Effect some day. Some day indeed... -creepy fan stalker laugh-
In all seriousness, I think I love Mass Effect more than WoW. I've certainly logged more hours in WoW, only because it's in MMORPG. If Bioware developed a Mass Effect MMORPG I'd leave WoW in a second haha!
I loved Mass Effect 1 more, however, because I felt the relationships were a lot more engaging and Shepard seemed like a leader of a band of friends out to save the Universe. Mass Effect 2 is a little different. I never really trusted the Illusive Man, either.

Eagerly awaiting my copy of DCUO in the mail. Looks like a lot of fun.
Rakah Jan 23rd 2011 1:48AM
It slows down to a grind at lvl 30 (the cap) you gotta farm lots of emblems for enough gear. the other odd thing about DCUO is that comp matters. it's really hard without a controller to act as the healers power battery.

Doing the Argent Tournament dailies in WoW (not yet 85; about half way there-doing solely off of Argent dailies as I need the last couple mounts).
Playing Mass Effect 2 on the PS3. Have them both (ME 1 & 2) on the 360, so, please don't go there with "It's better on the 360". Too much of a ME fan boy not to have & play everything that's ME.
Finishing off Fallout 3, Fallout: Vegas, and FFXIII (one is on the PS3; others on the 360).
Playing Lunar: Silvef Star on my PSP (favorite RPG after Xenogears and Parasite Eve; Chrysler Tower FTW).
Lastly, playing DCU: Online. It's nice to have another MMO to play other than WoW. Helps prevent burnout.
I know that sounds like a lot of games, but I've been working on them for some time. Only ones are DCU: Online and ME2.
Rictus Jan 22nd 2011 3:19AM
I'm right there with you, Alex, but I'll be playing ME2. I finally got it during the Holiday Steam Sales and started last week. I play it in short installments because I came to realize what a gigantic blck hole of time the game can be. I have to limit my playtime or the day has gone by before I know it.
Inbetween I play and thoroughly enjoy DCU Online. I'm actually taking a break from WoW (since my guild kind of broke up and at the time being we don't raid i don't "have to" gear my raiding characters, so I don't even pug normal dungeons and haven't set foot in a heroic yet).
