You can't really run crystal shards http://www.wowhead.com/spell=92122 over to the tank since they explode when they get near someone. It is best if you have to run the towards anything to head in the direction of whatever dps is aoe'ing them. If the dps isn't aoe'ing them then you need to tell them how to do their part.
