I've geared a Resto Shaman through heroics and now am working on a Paladin and I've always wondered: is the 5% buff to intellect worth skipping out on so many pieces of good gear that, while regrettably are not mail, will up your stats over a green or a lower-quality blue, mail or not. For example, I wore the Dolomite Adorned Gloves (cloth drop from Corborus) on my Shammy for a few weeks - that saved me the justice points I would've spent on the gloves and let me get a bigger, better, and more permanent upgrade. I am DEFINITELY not advocating rolling on a stopgap cloth or leather piece over a clothie or a druid that would actually get long-term use out of it, but I don't see the problem with taking it (should you win via greed thanks to Blizz not seeing things as I do.) In short: at this point in gear, an upgrade is an upgrade and until purple mail is falling from the skies like manna from heaven, I wouldn't break your back trying to go all mail all the time.

I think losing the 5% spellpower boost (roughly 250-300 SP) you get from the Specialization is not worth it 90% of the time. There would be times it's worth it (say, upgrading from a green 312, for example) but most of the time, I'd say not worth it.

Simple answer is try it on if you win a piece on greed put it on, look at your int if you have more int its worth losing the 5% if you have less int its not worth loseing the 5% also remember on upgrades you may have to factor in gems but would only get cheep ones as it is a stop gap
