The Daily Quest: Now make like a tree and get outta here
WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
I couldn't find a clip of Biff Tannen and his famous line, so instead you get Michael J. Fox rocking out. As for Biff, it took Back to the Future II before he finally realized the phrase is supposed to be "make like a tree and leave." So why all the fuss about leaving? Because today, we've got a few posts from around the blogosphere regarding exactly that subject:
- Righteous Orbs discusses the fallout from a fellow player leaving the game.
- Cynwise's Battlefield Manual discusses a possible Tol Barad exploit involving leaving the raid group while the battle is in progress.
- Pink Pigtail Inn has a few choice words for those who leave single stacks of items on the auction house.

Hehe a few choice words.
Have to say I like the topics of the blogs so I am definitely going to check them out. Either now or when I get home and on my computer.
Adios. ^.^

The TB exploit does not work. As soon as someone leaves the raid group and someone else joins, the other team gets 2 to compensate. Basically if you leave and stay in the combat zone, you're effectively giving the other team 2 replacements. There is a blue post about it, I will try to find it quickly.
"It doesn't actually work. The balance of factions is not dependant on if you’re in a raid or not. It's a mis-perception based on the inability to see the opposing team's numbers. What’s happening is that you can leave a raid, remain in Tol Barad, and because your old raid may pick up an additional player from the queue there’s an assumption that your side is getting more players. In fact the other side is keeping up and also getting additional players. We’ve verified across a number of realms that faction balance remains equal, even in cases where we found people actively attempting to use this to outnumber the opposing team. They weren't.
We keep a close eye on Tol Barad faction balance and turnover." - Bashiok

"single stacks of items on the auction house."
Oh this, so much this ... pages and pages (and pages) of one piece of cloth ? Really ? Since stuff is kind of expensive these days, i get that one is happy to buy just the quantity one needs for, say enchanting mats, but the "single stack mania" has hit pretty much everything else, down to low level things that cost 30 silver, ack !

Our purveyor of the Pink Pigtail Inn wasn't too keen on the suggestion but the real solution to this is a proper auction house addon. You don't need to run all the statistics and get all caught up in the finer points of market dynamics (and then you don't need an addon that does it - glancing towards Auctioneer). But you do want an addon that provides a quick way to scan the AH for the commodity you're interested in and help you quickly make your purchases - at which point, the cheap single stacks become a blessing.
I get that not everyone is an addon fiend. But the solution is there. It makes no more sense ignoring AH addons than complaining that the stores are too spread out, your feet hurt from all the walking, and that one shouldn't have to take on the expense of operating a motor vehicle (no - this isn't your chance to smugly point out that you bike to work / the store). Our environment changes. The market changes. Your average gear iLvl has changed. People are flying around town. It's a brave new world just waiting for you to grab hold for the ride.

This was one of my favorite movie franchises of the 80's. I just bought the Trilogy and have watched the first two so far with my kids. NOW they get the jokes in the Family Guy episodes that referenced them. :)

Pink Pigtail Inn needs to think up some better topics. Terrible default interfaces are often left by Blizzard to the after market UI developer community to improve, from which in turn Blizzard culls the best and adopts as their own as time goes by. I am hoping WI can find better posts to link to in the future that aren't as banal and self-serving.
