The Queue: Huzzah!
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.
Thank goodness for MST3K on Netflix. "Trumpy! You can do stupid things!"
Guilegamesh asked:
Where do all the blues get their names from? I can't find any background on Bashiok, Lylirra, Wryxian, etc. Do they have a secret name generator that produces these unique names, and if there is, how can i get in on it?
As a former blue, I can unequivocally state that they get to choose their own names. The names do have to be approved by higher-ups, though, and they must be "fantasy-sounding." Before I settled on Belfaire, I was also considering Inzmith and Carmagh.
Landry asked:
I have a friend that's big into crafting with his legion of alts. He's come across some hard times and needs to put one or both of his accounts on hold. He's wondering what happens to the mail in his mailbox? Does it still have the 30-day expiration or does the mail get frozen along with the account?
The 30 days ticks away in real time, so he should clear his mailbox before he cancels his subscription. Bear in mind that you cannot suspend game time -- even if you cancel your active subscription, your account will remain active until your remaining game time expires.
Simeon_Halcyon asked:
Let's say you have a level 7 guild, and something comes up that makes your current guild name very undesirable (nothing profane or inappropriate, mind you.) In this situation, barring swallowing the heartache that comes with having to start a guild all over just to change a few words or simply grinning and bearing the incongruent guild title, what does a guild need to do to get their guild title changed?
You can petition a GM to have your guild name changed if you have a decent reason for it, but there's no guarantee that they'll do it. Policy may have changed recently due to guild progression being added to the game, though, so I'd give it a shot.

My Instant Que is filled with every MST3K I can find, since my VHS tapes of the Turkey day marathons have been deleted long ago.

Pod People is a strong contender for best MST3k episode of all time, and in a field of such quantity and quality, that's saying something. "Now we can paly!" "Like hell. More food." "Do you know how to play, Trumpy? What do you know?" "Food. Eating. The Theater."

I have a question in regards to twinks. In BC they were all over the place it seems. In Wrath they almost became extinct when Blizzard made changes to the battlegrounds. Did the twink community ever make a comeback? If so are there are any other popular brackets aside from 19? Maybe 70?
Trevor Jan 28th 2011 11:23AM
The problem with Twinks now is that when they introduced XP gains in battlegrounds, it made it hard to twink out a character at say 19, to get all the honor gear your can, without gaining XP and hitting the next bracket.
There is an option to turn off XP gains, but in Battlegrounds that puts you with others who have also turned off XP gains. I'm pretty sure that Twink Vs. Twink PvP is not as fun as Twink Vs. Non-Twink PvP.
Lee Woodworth Jan 28th 2011 11:29AM
I'm pretty sure that Blizz disapproved of the twink concept, as evidenced by the fact that everything you do now earns some XP, most especially pvp. This way it's impossible to stop a toon at a level less than max and still PVP, as winning or losing at PVP will gain you XP and thus levels, unless you relegate yourself to duelling others on your server. If that kind of thing is to be found, you might want to poke around for it on the RP server forums.

@lee http://www.wowwiki.com/Experience_point
"If you do not want to gain XP (for the purpose of e.g. making a Twink), you can visit Behsten (Alliance) or Slahtz (Horde) to turn off all experience gain. It costs 10g to disable XP gain, and another 10g to re-enable it. "
Noyou Jan 28th 2011 11:35AM
There is a twink guild on my server they stop at 70. Which is pretty easy to do, just get another account and don't buy LK or Cata. Not sure how much those are atm. I know right before Cata they were on sale. That way you don't have to turn off XP so you will be in the same groups with everyone else and smashing their faces :p
ziggler Jan 28th 2011 11:37AM
For years people with twinks screamed "its not about owning ppl in quest green and greys, its about fighting other twinks".
So blizzard separated the twinks, by having bg's for characters below maximum lvl with the xp gains turned off, effectively making twinks only bg's.
And twinks vanished.
need I say more?
DoubleCrit Jan 28th 2011 11:38AM
Twink means you have a gear maxed out, or close to it, character for your level. Is it unfair? Yes and no. Unfair to other non twinks but fair to other twinks. If you want to win at pvp 100% of the time go to a level 20 starting zone at level 85 to gank some low levels.
Quiz Jan 28th 2011 11:51AM
Yeah, as several posters have commented above, the twink fix of turning off xp effectively killed the griefing joy of twink pvp. When faced with the prospect of grinding away low level bgs, after long queue times, against similarly geared twink players there for the same reason, most people just said "Screw this" and decided it's better just to play max-level pvp.
Good fix, in my opinion. Twinking was always an excuse to bully lowbies. A level playing field killed the petty fun for them and I am all for that.
