One of the great things about expansions is all the "firsts" we get to experience. For example: my first 310% flight speed, my first time flying in the old world, my first archaeology artifact -- there are so many fantastic things that come with an expansion! However, there are also some rude awakenings. I was surprised when frost came back as a mage leveling spec. I was also taken aback at just how quickly I perished when I tried to take on more than one mob. Let me paint a picture for you.
Here we have this overconfident fire mage coming into Mount Hyjal for the first time. She grabs some quests and heads out to kill some fire elementals. She tags one, and puts Living Bomb up. It proceeds to make a lot of elementals angry with her. She shrugs off the multitude of fiery beings heading her way -- "I'll just AoE them down." That doesn't bode well. Slowly, her life force ebbs away, she gets weaker and weaker, there's a darkness coming over her, and then she's just ... gone.
I stare at my screen. Did that really just happen? Did I seriously just die to my first Cataclysm mob? I quickly look around the room; awww crud, yes, my husband saw that. Well, that's a bit embarrassing! I then take some time to see what the other mages in the area are running as. "Ahem, well I guess I'll go spec frost now ..."
I'm curious where and when the rest of you saw your first Cataclysm demise. Was it due to overconfidence or a wrong spec? Did you make it without dying until your first dungeon?

Deathwing. Not even kidding, I was leveling a worgen rogue. I was in Burning Steppes, I see lava bursting through the round. My first thought was, "Wow this is cool." The very next second i'm a lifeless corpse covered by the send of burning fur, flesh, and leather...and I get the "Killed by Deathwing" achievement. I couldn't help but laugh, cry, and celebrate at the same time.

My first death in Cata was as I was going to hand in my final quest to get to 85 when Deathwing strafed the zone and killed me.
I look forward to returning the favour.

I died in a very stupid manner. While laughing at all of the corpses around Barron Geddon while hovering above in the air I mistakenly dismounted and fell to my death. Suffice it to say my friend who was chatting with me on vent laughed until I got my corpse back.

On my main the druid, not sure I know. Though I have a hunch it was an overpull of the stupid kind while questing in Vash'jir...
My warrior had the honor of dying to Geddon, as many above did.
On my shaman though, after I got my druid to 85? Jumping on my flying carpet mount ...and riding off the high middle cliff in Orgrimmar to my death. Yes, I forgot that buying the azeroth flying first might be a decent idea.

I was in vash doing quest near the end when I fish bit me. The bite kept causing damage and never went away. II think it was a grouper? Well eventually I died, several of my guildies died the same way, there was no way to get rid of it. It was eventually hotfixed.
