If you prefer to do 25 dailies a day, you certainly don't have time to farm with your gathering profession. Sure, you can pick a node here, a herb there while you do your dailies, but this doesn't justify having the profession if you don't farm.

You are right to prefer buying your ores than farming them. It's what we call opportunity cost.
