| Damion Schubert philosophizes about TOR's death penalty Lead Combat Designer Damion Schubert recently discussed the philosophy behind SWTOR's death penalty on the game's official forums. "I would rather our challenges be gated by whether or not you have the skill, the gear, and the teamwork to succeed than whether or not you have the credits and/or time to wait out the forced downtime in between, you know, the fun part," Schubert explains. |

I haven't seen it yet bit the overwhelming response to that documentary has been negative. Sounds like the guy was just trying to be a jerk.

I found myself actually wanting more than theoretical information about the death penalty in ToR. The developer essentially saying "We don't want to penalize them too heavily, or it won't be fun" is kind of obvious. Who wants to make their game not fun? (Well, besides the guys over at Champions Online.)

Y'all mention the "fan got hired for TOR" article from today, but not the Flashpoints thing from Friday? That was cool, showing fans how dungeons in TOR work, with a fancy trailer. Here's the link if anyone's curious. :)

For some reason, I keep reading it as 'Tirion blah blah with RIFT MMO'.
It's kinda like, 'good for him, getting a new hobby with no more Lich King to kill.'

No Mac client for RIFT. Too bad. Guess I won't be trying it.

"If you've been on the fence about whether or not you should try upcoming MMO RIFT, perhaps this newly released CG cinematic trailer will convince you."
Why would a prerendered trailer convince me? It does not tell me anything about in-game mechanics, character advancement, social tools, professions, user interface, community interaction etc. You can do something like that trailer just about everything.

I totally agree there, it's like movie trailers that don't even give the slightest hint to what the story is about. Doesn't interest me.

My buddy has been trying Rift out. He says its "A little like WoW. ...ok a LOT like WoW. Why am i playing this instead of WoW?"
nieboh Feb 2nd 2011 5:33AM
you mean that tagline from their ad "you're not in azeroth anymore" is actually a psa in case you forget and think you're playing WoW?
That tagline just makes me laugh though. It's supposed to mirror the Wizard of Oz with Dorothy not being in Kansas anymore...but her goal the whole movie was trying to get *back* to Kansas. Oz wasn't really that great of a place.
