The Queue: Ackis != Arrakis

The above is a very important point to make.
While you can make spicy things with the help of Ackis, you cannot mine spice like you do on Arrakis. This can be very confusing to nerds of the tenth power like myself, but hopefully today's Queue has cleared this all up.
And if you don't get the above picture, I'm sure someone will tell you about it in the comments relatively early on.
Greatmario asked:
I'm kind of a profession perfectionist, and I'm looking for a mod that will look at all my current professions and tell me which recipes I'm missing. This would be particularly useful for cooking, but I'd like to fill in my missing blacksmithing patterns as well. Does anyone know if a mod like this exists?
The mod you want is called Ackis (Curse link). It will display everything for you. The beta version of it is updated often enough, and I've loaded that up if the release version is missing something.
Josin asked:
I think you guys should have Cutaia sit in on the [podcast] chat sometime. Or Drakkenfyre? Grab a regular commenter who usually has good (or controversial) viewpoints, and haul them in to mix things up.
That's a good idea, and one that we've thrown around before. I'm not too sure that it'll happen in the near future, though.
One thing that we do encourage everyone to do is submit Breakfast Topics to us through our Seed program. We take a serious look at every article that's submitted, although it's not hard for us to say, "Oh hey, look, Cutaia wrote this, and he's bringing some of his awesome comments to us in article form."
Galestrom asked:
What are the various options out there for capturing gameplay video?
There are a ton of options these days. You mentioned Fraps in the comment you left, and that's pretty much the de facto standard. I'd be hard-pressed to find something better than that. There is, however, built-in video recording on the Mac version of WoW, and that works okay -- not great, but okay.

The Who, hands down!
That is due to my own personal enjoyment of course, not overall popularity. I can't help it if so many people don't have my good taste. X-p

"Skippy, what's the name of that group playing on stage?"
"Who."
"The name of the group."
"Who."
"The group on stage."
"Who!"
""The group playing on stage."
"Who!"
"You're starting to sound like an owl, Skippy."
"Who is on stage!"
"That's what I'm asking you, who is on stage?"
"That's what I said."
"You said 'who'?"
"I sure did."
"So tell me the name."
"Who."
"The name of the group."
"Who."
"The group on stage."
"Who!"
"The name of the band on stage!"
"Who!"
"You're doing that owl thing again, Skippy!"
"I'm not, Aunt Slappy! I'm telling you Who's on stage!"
"So tell me."
"Who."
"The name of the group."
"Who!"
"The group on stage!"
"Who!"
"That's what I'm asking you!"
"And I'm telling you the answer!"

On the Wow-Insider show you guys mentioned some names while talking about RL werewolf lore.
Could you spell out the names here so I can google them?

Another question: Is it possible to cancel one's joystiq account? I'd like to remake my account under my real name, but I can't have more than one account on my email address. I can't find the option for this, though.
hicks Feb 1st 2011 1:04PM
If it's a Gmail account, you can do one of two things:
Current account: (username)@gmail.com
New account: (user.name)@gmail.com
Gmail ignores periods in email addresses, but they added that feature late, so sometimes my firstname.lastname@gmail.com gets emails that should have gone to firstnamelastname@gmail.com. Maybe he gets all of mine too, not sure. Fun!
Second way, and a lot of other email providers support this, is:
(username)@(mail).com
(username)+joystiq@(mail).com
Check and see if they support plus addressing and you can do it that way.

Sting as Feyd-Rautha from the 1984 epic, "Dune". And if people don't understand the spice reference, watch the movie. Go. Netflix. Now.
Why are you still here?
MacAndy Feb 1st 2011 11:19AM
Heh. I remember seeing Dune back in the day in the theater when it first came out. When Sting appeared on screen, stepping out of the shower (steam locker?) , all the girlies gasped as one.
My brother and I? Laughed out loud IRL. At them, not the movie.

As if you need more incentive, it's also got Jean Luc Picard in it.
And giant worms.
To Netflix with ye!

Better yet, skip the awful movie and read the amazing book. If you just have to watch something, check out the ScFi channel mini-series from 2000...it's much better than the David Lynch disaster.
it's not that Feb 1st 2011 11:26AM
Seriously? Watch the movie? *Watch* the *movie*? I am quite flabbergasted that somebody would say this! If you're a nerd, how can you pick the movie over the book? If you're not a nerd, why would you care at all about Dune and why are you commenting on a WoW fan blogzine thing?
Lokanaya Feb 1st 2011 11:26AM
Netflix? And not the actual books?!? Blasphemer! D:<
Aaron Feb 1st 2011 11:27AM
Movie is amazing.
Book (and the entire subsequent series) is a masterpiece!
I'm really hoping for a Lord of the Rings-style epic movies series for Dune some day... *sigh*
jrblackyear Feb 1st 2011 11:34AM
@it's not that...
First, I suggested watching the movie because it's a cult classic, a science fiction epic despite the reservations some people hold against it. The book was fantastic, don't get me wrong; but the photo is from the movie, and if people want to learn about spice mining, '80s science fiction AND Sting, it's their one-stop-shop.
Tirrimas Feb 1st 2011 11:56AM
For its time, Dune was a fantastic movie. The costumes and sets were GORGEOUS.
Looking back on it with a more mature eye (it came out when I was a teenager), it does have its flaws (Jessica, Shani and Paul were rather wooden, but Sting - he IS Feyd).
Like any movie based on an epic series (Harry Potter, anyone?) there's a LOT left out, some of which is integral to understanding the story. The movie is useful for presenting visuals to frame the book with.
Neirin Feb 1st 2011 12:01PM
There's a difference between "so bad it's good" and "just bad." The Dune movie falls into the latter category. The high point of the movie is Sting. Like, him on screen is the only even vaguely entertaining part of the film.
Watching David Lynch direct dune is like watching De Niro do Little Fockers. They need the paycheck, but it's still a shame to see such talent go to waste. Go see Blue Velvet or Eraserhead instead.
