I have a crazy-ass half-baked conspiracy theory that they're letting Ret crawl along the bottom of the DPS tank for a bit so they can scrape off all the flavour-of-the-month players who rolled ret pallies in Wrath, and once some other class has pulled away all the facerollers they'll buff it again. It's completely stupid, of course, but still. I think at its most basic Holy Power is a neat resource, but it needs work. Ret needs some kind of Deadly Momentum or Envenom, or both, to keep Inquisition up without it feeling like a chore, the same way rogues keep up Slice And Dice. We also need less procs - Art of War is good, Hammer of Wrath is fun, but Hand of Light is just *confusing* since *everything* lights up and it's yet another proc to watch. If our DPS isn't being yo-yo'd sky-high by procs, it will be possible to make the baseline damage non-stinky. Someone suggested making Crusader Strike do a portion of its damage as holy damage, which would make it scale with mastery and go some way to fixing our baseline damage. We should also lose Zealotry, or Avenging Wrath, or - ideally - have Zealotry folded into Avenging Wrath. I can't think of a situation where I'd want to hit one and not the other as well, but we really don't need a second DPS cooldown. My main problem with ret, though, is just how squishy it feels - I said earlier that it feels more fragile than my (arcane) mage, which is just *wrong*. Higher damage could go some way towards fixing this, in that things would die before we got clobbered, but we need something. I'm not sure what.

Ret Paladins have 1 stun, and one decent gap closer. Any decent mage will be able to kite a paladin all day long, and likely unload a heap of burst to burn you down. Yeah you have bubble, but that doesn't even seem all that great, it feels more like delaying the inevitable. Mages have so many more tools to slow you down and to escape from danger; the equalizer for pallies is that you can heal yourself, but good luck trying to channel healing spells, for once you get locked out with a counterspell, you're dead.Doing more damage isn't going to help your survivability. A mage is going to be able to escape and evocate his health back up. I think the change to sacred shield is going to help ret survivability quite a bit however.
