"My main problem with ret, though, is just how squishy it feels - I said earlier that it feels more fragile than my (arcane) mage, which is just *wrong*. Higher damage could go some way towards fixing this, in that things would die before we got clobbered, but we need something. I'm not sure what."In pvp, mages have a lot of ways to cc, snare, and root people (yes even arcane can hit frost nova and root someone), as well as a crap ton of escapability. Ret Paladins have 1 stun, and one decent gap closer. Any decent mage will be able to kite a paladin all day long, and likely unload a heap of burst to burn you down. Yeah you have bubble, but that doesn't even seem all that great, it feels more like delaying the inevitable. Mages have so many more tools to slow you down and to escape from danger; the equalizer for pallies is that you can heal yourself, but good luck trying to channel healing spells, for once you get locked out with a counterspell, you're dead.Doing more damage isn't going to help your survivability. A mage is going to be able to escape and evocate his health back up. I think the change to sacred shield is going to help ret survivability quite a bit however.
