Breakfast Topic: Do you save stuff for nostalgic reasons?

Nostalgia is a funny thing; it often lets us remember only the good and forget the bad. We look back with rose-colored glasses on the past, thinking how awesome it was. In real life, people hang on to odd souvenirs as memory triggers, and sometimes it is the same in game. There are old drops that took us a long time to get or signified a first kill of a boss in a previous expansion, things we just cannot seem to vendor or throw away because it feels like cheating on the memory. So we hold on to these items, allowing them to clog up bank slots so that whenever we go digging through them for an obscure item we currently need, we get that pleasant flashback.
For the longest time, I was a borderline hoarder of nostalgic items. I had my full Stormrage set in the bank from vanilla, my tier 6 and my SSC trash staff from BC, and a few other random pieces, even including a Wildheart helm. I used them to not only remember the old raids and guilds, but friends who left WoW or switched factions or servers. However, it would be a quick, wistful moment -- then I would grab whatever I needed and close my bank back up.
The trouble was, the amount of items and the randomness in which they were fit into my bank created chaos, and as I was collecting tabards for my 25 tabard achievement and gear sets for achievements, I simply ran out of room. So I purged my bank, selling any and everything with a cash value. It was a little tough, but I moved on.
Do you have items in your bank purely for nostalgic reasons? If so, what items did you keep and why? Have you ever had to purge your bank when it began to fill up?

The Sandals of Chaos Resolution my gnome warlock received from Highlord Bolvar Fordragon right before his "death" at Wrathgate. I keep these for RP reasons.
I won't bore your non-RP readers with the entire story. Basically, this quest chain turned her from a vengeance driven killer into a someone working for good.
When she received those Sandals, it was the high point of her life up to that time. She was crushed by the events that soon followed and she keeps those sandals as a reminder to never become like the Forsaken.

I still have a spellstone on my warlock from when they removed them.

I saved the quiver from the Ancient Dried Leaf quest chain. When they changed/deleted ammo, it became a 24 slot epic bag. I also bought and saved a Argent Dawn Tabard from the first Scourge invasion and got a FoS out of it when the acheivement system took effect.

My first epic.
I'm a bit of a packrat already, but those pants aren't ever leaving my bank.

I still have my Tyrannical Beheader http://www.wowhead.com/item=50267 sitting in my bank, and the story will explain why it's so important to me.
My guild was preparing for some casual raids, but first we needed strong enough gear. I frequently ended up as top DPS for my groups, so a decent portion of our success hinged on how well I could do, with only one problem: I was undergeared at the time. While my Edge of Ruin http://www.wowhead.com/item=47493 had been serving me well, I was starting to fall behind my friends who had all managed to find ilevel 232 or above weapons. In order to bring my full potential to raids, I needed a cutting edge (pardon the pun) weapon, and the Beheader was it.
Day after day, week after week, I ran heroic Pit of Saron as often as I could. I would even try to game the system a bit, queing for it specifically first, then trying to get it again as a random. For anyone who joined the game after Cataclysm...Pit of Saron is HARD, especially on heroic. The trash pulls can be tough, the bosses can be tough, there are a few mob groups after the second boss that everyone tries to avoid because actually fighting them is such a nightmare, and to top it off, Tyrannus (at the time) could sometimes bug out and be unkillable; he'd stand around untargetable while his frost wyrm flew around and bombarded you until everyone decided to leave.
Sometimes I'd slog through the entire dungeon just for Tyrannus to bug, wasting the entire attempt. Sometimes my group was so bad that they would wipe and just give up before even reaching him. More often than not though, we'd finally down Tyrannus only for him to drop something that WASN'T his weapon, forcing me to come back and try again tomorrow. At the same time, I'd hear reports from my friends about how often it was dropping for THEM and how many of the other strength-based melee in our guild were getting it. The one time it DID drop for me, an off-server healer (a shaman, so there was no way he could've needed to use it himself) ninja'd it right out from under me. It finally got to the point where I started half-jokingly suggesting that we try and organize runs of Marrowgar (we were still trying to make sure we were ready to do Trial of the Crusader, by the way) so that I could perhaps get a weapon drop from him; yeah, I was desperate to get a better weapon.
And then one day I was running Pit with a guildie and he suggested I perform his ritual for better luck before we started the fight. It was extremely silly, but what did I have to lose? I did the ritual and, making sure we were in the proper positions to avoid triggering the bug, we fought Tyrannus.
...And it dropped. AND I WON IT.
And then, of course, a few weeks later somebody notices the ilevel 264 arena weapons have had their arena ratings removed, so everybody grabbed one of those. But even after replacing it, I kept my Beheader. After all the trouble I went through to get it in the first place? No way was I ever giving it up.

Hahahahaha...
I don't know where to begin. There was a post a few days back about achievements that need to be. For us horders, let's start with, "Pack Rat". I still have my Mallet of Zul'Farrak, my Scepter of Celebras and Nightbane's Urn. I carry around one arrow and one bullet of the last kind I used before ammo went "bubai". I have a bag of Level 60's gear and a bag of level 70's gear, although I'm missing some trinkets. I still have my Stalker's Helmet of Second Sight, lest a guild member want to do the Gorefiend quest line and need help. Steam Tonk Controller, Scepter of Shifting Sands, 3 Halloween wands (I really should use those up, but there are times when having one is perfect for the event.), my original Onyxia Tooth Pendant, sigh. Guild members have talked about making me bigger bags if for no other reason than what I carry is kind of guild history. I finally got rid of the last ammo bag a guild member made for me. It was really hard but when it reverted from a 24 to a 20 slot bag, it was kind of a no-brainer.

Yes I do. I saved basically everything that came from a raid, on my main. Also anything blue I used for significant amounts of time while leveling. And various random holiday/fun items. And various bits of trash you can't get anymore, like poison-making materials (remember those? :D)
That character's bank and bags are now totally full, but luckily for me, I switched mains at Cataclysm, so now I have a new character to fill the bank of with bound crap, yay!
Bazaro Feb 5th 2011 12:52PM
The strangest thing I have saved in my bank is a [Mysterious Unhatched Egg] (gray item) I got it about 5 years ago when I first started playing and did not understand that gray items were just trash. I thought hmmm maybe it will hatch into something cool... LOL By the time I stopped being a "noob" I didnt have the heart to get rid of it. So in my bank it sits probably forever.

My first random epic drop: Staff of Jordan
Lots of holiday stuff. Stuff from the in world events before Lich King dropped. Letter from my first GM, when he was nice.
danieldykes Feb 5th 2011 1:08PM
I still have my original DK helm. Gotta remember where ya' came from, I guess.
Animate Feb 5th 2011 1:13PM
I have a bunch of random stuff in my bags. Not really a boarder other than the original DK armor. That was just awesome
SFJONAH Feb 5th 2011 1:26PM
I have almost every piece of tier gear still. Praying for blizzard to put in the "closet" function that will apply your stored item models to you current gear.
Blizzard the new stuff is U.G.L.Y.
Bring back my awesome BC gear. The avatar set was AWESOME.

I have been playing World of Warcraft for six years (to the day - it's the day after my birthday so I remember because of that), though not all the time during those six years and I have a number of characters that have been my main at one time or other and they each have different items that I can't get rid of.
I have my dungeon set one on my druid as well as some trinkets that summon assorted helpers or transform me as well as a ton of holiday outfits. I've had to systematically delete tier sets (after taking screenshots). I also have special tabards that I'm unable to replace and have to hold on to. Replaceable ones are vendored once they serve their purpose.
I rolled a paladin several months after the launch of BC (resentfully as I didn't want a BE) and levelled her prot for aoe grinding. I still have my wall of the dead, flurry axe and stockade pauldrons as well as the most awesome trinket - mark of the chosen. I also have my petrified lichen guard from Sporeggar and my level 50ish class quest trinket.
I have my class quest trinket (blessed prayer beads) on my priest as well as the tabard of the protector from the opening of the dark portal event.
I'm just glad that we "learn" pets and mounts these days as I certainly wouldn't have room for anything else.
Overall, I tend to hang onto items that are unique (can't get again as they are a one time item) or that have sentimental value.

Whitemane's Chapeau.
Benediction.
The Drakefire Amulet.
The Light of Elune.
The Porcelain Bells I found while doing fishing dailies.
And on my new alts, I've been collecting the rewards from particularly memorable quests.

I used to have all of my DK's starter blues, but as time as passed I ran out of room in my bank and only have the two handed sword. Right now, I guess my set of full t10 is being kept for nostalgic reasons. I probably need to clean my bank up some, for a while I had my full t8, full t9 and a full Deadly Gladiator set in there.
cntrstrk14 Feb 5th 2011 2:53PM
My bank is mostly holiday stuff, old vanilla tier sets and other pieces of tier gear I have collected, and some 500 snow balls for flinging at awkward non winter times throughout the year.
Morgatho Feb 5th 2011 2:58PM
my mains (hunter) bank is mostly full of holiday stuff, tabards and gear i couldn't part with such as Arrowsong, Dragon spine trophy, Quel'dalar, Death bringers will, Betrayer of humanity (boy did i get bugged about getting that), Rok, Lok and the now 24 slot hunter bag that was the 16 slot quiver, full T1 and some T2, Edge of Agony, Ahune's staff and the epic sword off of barron rivendare (mount farming 4TW) and several other random quest rewards.
My main alt (pally) has every epic sword and shield Ive ever gotten, including old school quel'sara (took 40 mins to solo only as a lvl 80 prot pally) and some T2, working on getting the full set cause T2 is the best pally set.
Hallo Feb 5th 2011 3:21PM
Archmage Vargoth's Staff
It's in every one of my toon's bags that is high enough to have done those quests. The Image of Archmage Vargoth makes a traditional appearance in all of our guild's screen shots of our first raid kills.
Ctmcstomperq Feb 5th 2011 3:54PM
Across all my toons I have:
A skimpy outfit(except for my warrior he wouldn't look good in a bikini and hotpants, tho he has the Purple Judgement set from Outland heroics)
My druid has her T1, most of her T2, the first piece of raid gear I ever got, the first epic I ever earned a valentine's dress from every year I've played, Lunar Festival Gear from every year I've play, a Brewfest set, ECT. you get the Idea.
Pally is a little cleaner, but not much.
All the other toons are much cleaner. But those two are my "mains".
