Breakfast Topic: Love: Is it actually in the air?

The Azerothian holiday Love is in the Air is based on the real world Valentine's Day holiday. There are some similarities, of course -- in Azeroth as in real life, the holiday involves romantic picnics, eating candies, and making very poor decisions while drunk. The activities are far more rewarding in Azeroth, though: Completing these, along with all the other holiday achievements throughout the year, earns you the 50-point What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been meta achievement, complete with a Violet Proto-Drake and free Master Riding. (For more information about completing the Love meta achievement, take a look at Allison Robert's The Overachiever: Guide to Love is in the Air 2011.)
How are you planning on spending the two-week-long holiday? Are you going to spend it working on your holiday meta achievement? Are you looking forward to farming Apothecary Hummel for his new ilevel 346 loot? Or maybe you'll just send your in-game sweetheart a Bouquet of Black Roses?
As for yours truly, I'll be spending the bulk of my time receiving gifts from my many suitors (hint, hint), flirting with blood elves, riding Big Love Rockets, and spending some quality time with my one true love -- myself.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has destroyed Azeroth as we know it; nothing is the same! Listen up, fellas! You can bemoan this corporate nonsense, or ride the wave to sexy time! Here's whatcha do for your woman: 1) Rent "Chocolat" 2) Make this: http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/death-by-chocolate/Detail.aspx 3) Make sure the lady is warm, and in very soft things -- tape pillows to her if necessary. 4) This is important. If you've done everything right, she WILL fall asleep. The good part happens when she wakes up. HOW she awakes is totally up to your nerve and her temperament. If your lady doesn't like chocolate or Johnny Depp, then there is no help for you. Leave her immediately or find your own damn movie and sweets combo.

Oh right right. My bad. So how about those Metas?
Bart Feb 6th 2011 9:55AM
LIITA is bugged for me and a few guildies (One example is a quest still asking to speak to Cairne and it can't be turned into Baine)

This is the last holiday I need for the meta, and I keep hearing about the bugs. @_@ I'm just hoping it all gets fixed in time.
Noyou Feb 6th 2011 11:16AM
Good luck mused :)

I got The Love Fool 2 years ago, so I'm just after the mount nowadays.

"How are you planning on spending the two-week-long holiday? Are you going to spend it working on your holiday meta achievement?"
Personally, I can't wait till all those bugs are fixed so that I can actually *pursue* those achievements. So far, this has been the buggiest event ever - and I have been playing for almost three years now. Yes, even the first instigation of Brewfest wasn't *that* bad.

the Bouquet of black roses links to the romantic picnic basket btw :)

I have the meta on my main, my current romantic and personal life is pretty dreadful (kids, never try to stay friends with your ex-girlfriend, it doesn't work), so I'll be out in the wilds of Azeroth, swearing at the developers for the RNG nightmare that is Archaeology and avoiding the cities for now.
Love stinks. :P

This and Children's Week and I get my free upgrade to riding skill. I'm am seriously not looking forward to those dang battleground achievements for Children's Week. I avoided them last year for a reason -- and then they tell me about the riding skill thing!

I think it is so sad to see that Blizzard is so damn lazy with this holiday. They haven't changed a single quest text - people get pointed to the zeppelin twoer in the middle of orgrimmar... yeah which one? the quest-goblin stands amidst the Tauren Lunar festival attendees... yeah saw him right away (or not). The daily to go out and kill stuff for the company is not available if you are 85. and yeah the best of them all: we need to go see Cairne not Baine. This is horrible. Just horrible.
I'm not really complaining about so many tokens missing that I actually need to grind 100+ Love Charms to balance these missing quests out, but it isn't even do-able now. And all they give us is "it will be fixed soon" and "we know about these issues" - why not check on these things before?
Just lame.

So I guess the bosses aren't on the new queue system this year like the Headless Horseman was. Bummer having to clear SFK up to them when that's all I'm interested in and probably won't complete a run because everyone else will leave after they're dead.
LouCypher Feb 6th 2011 2:07PM
Apparently they're not in the LFG tool, but you can queue for them by talking to an NPC in the front of your major capital. In Orgrimmar it's Steamwheelde Shyster, a goblin in a purple suit located in front of Grommash Hold.
Katherine Feb 6th 2011 1:41PM
Same as every year, hiding away from the rose petals, hearts, perfumed strangers and scary goblin/cupids. And especially avoiding the pet!
Might do a few runs of the boss on my alts.
Chetti Feb 6th 2011 2:03PM
I'll be attempting to complete the meta, though I'm not sure its going to happen. I noticed the holiday bosses aren't in the dungeon finder, I wonder why.. hopefully thats a bug too.
As for valentine's day out of azeroth, well on the 13th I'll be at the tattoo shop with my boyfriend for what has become our yearly valentine's day tattoos. He'll be getting work done on his back piece. The following saturday I'll be getting an old tattoo covered with a newer, more awesome tattoo.. normally we'd have the whole day booked with our artist, but she was so booked up that we needed separate days. On the 14th we'll probably go to dinner, or I'll make him dinner.. somethin. :)
LouCypher Feb 6th 2011 2:14PM
There's an NPC that lets you queue for them, it's Steamwheedle Shyster in Orgrimmar, between the bank and Grommash Hold.
Matthew Feb 6th 2011 8:45PM
When you ride your love rocket, make sure you wear protection.
Seatbelts ftw.
Quixota Feb 6th 2011 8:53PM
I miss the days of pledges and broken hearts and voting for your favourite leader (wouldn't it be cool to see Hellscream get NO votes! Vol'jin ftw!! And a write-in for Cairne's ghost!
Semi-seriously though, since the nefarious do-badding of the Chemical Bros entered into it last year, Love is in the Air has just seemed a much more cynical holiday than it was before, when everyone was giving friendship bracelets to heal broken hearts (even if for some it was just for the reciprocals) and you could gather extra pledges galore and give them to your friends and loved ones. And rng might be a super-biatch, but gee you felt amazing if something finally dropped (don't get me started on the recipe for Savory Deviate Delight now being virtually worthless... surely there's a better balance out there somewhere?)
First things last, is it a bug with the LFG that it just flashes up the SFK dungeon and then goes to the random queue, or is it only available as a lvl 85 H? I was on a lvl 82 trying to pick it up off the gobbie npc in Org.
