Around Azeroth: Out of the game and into the streets
Disclaimer: WoW Insider does not condone the cool crime of vandalism. But all things considered, this is a pretty cool piece of vandalism. Mallem of <Inappropriate> on Zuluhed (US-H) recently noticed that the Alliance/Horde conflict has moved out of Azeroth and into meatspace. This construction project sign is on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where I live. Nice try, NCSU, but your love of the Horde still doesn't make up for your basketball team.

I'd be tempted to spray "BROWNCOATS" or "REMEMBER SERENITY VALLEY" on it as well. :P

Interesting, being in the Raleigh area, I'll have to look for that. That picture needs to go on my camera-phone. And NCSU is totally for the Horde. Look at all the red around here!
Tachy Feb 22nd 2011 12:50AM
There's someone with a white truck who has a Horde sticker on the back part. I kind of wish there were a cool Alliance counterpart to that but....it really just isn't as epic, honestly. The Horde symbol IS cooler. :[

State, the team in red, lost to Duke, the team in blue on Sat. They were down 30 before halftime.
For the Alliance!
riverdancer13 Feb 22nd 2011 12:52AM
Totally makes sense. Occasional PVP battles, except it seems the Alliance team IRL is terrific at beating the Horde. Oh, the irony.
What does that make Carolina?

Win.

For you maybe, The person who paid for the sign is out a few hundred bucks because some twit doesn't care about respecting others property.
Vandalism is not cool. It hurts people and business and encourages more people to act the same way.
Luci Feb 7th 2011 12:37PM
Gah lighten up there scoot-scoot. I think anyone would agree to that.
What the vandal COULD have done to achieve the same level of humor is take a picture of the sign, photoshop vandalize it, and then publish it on the interwebz.
However, he didn't and wow.com posted it here for its humorous factor. I don't blame them for posting it and I don't think anyone here is thinking "zomg vandlizm iz so kewl, ima go dew it nao."
How many times in a given day do we all see something wrong and laugh at it? It's just a currently hot form of humor in our culture, for better or worse.
When you watch Family Guy and they make fun of fat people, do you think, "Aw, poor fat people?" No, you laugh.
When you watch funny videos of ppl failing at something and hurting themselves, do you go, "Aww, poor guy." No, you laugh.
When I see this pic, I laugh.
Aw, poor sign-buying person/company/thing. Shame on you vandal!

I understand what you are saying but there is a real difference between what happens in a cartoon and in real life. Even if this is just a photoshop someone might go out and try this because we have a picture depicting someone getting away with it. We could have property damage or that person could end up hurting themselves. At best this is irresponsible, at worst someone will get hurt.
Luci Feb 7th 2011 1:14PM
I see a lot of people getting flamed back and forth here guys, and I don't think any of you are wrong. We should all just quit this, mmk?
It is wrong. Vandalism is wrong.
However, it is also a funny pic.
I think both sides would agree to both of those statements and everyone should quit griping about it and enjoy the picture as another one of those things you laugh at and feel bad about.

99.9% won't go out and copy this cause they have more sense, and as for the rest. If they do n get caught or even hurt do we really care? Darwin awards anyone? lol

"I don't think anyone here is thinking "zomg vandlizm iz so kewl""
only the WoW Insider writer "this is a pretty cool piece of vandalism."
damn Luci, you're stupid
Luci Feb 7th 2011 3:01PM
Carebear, it was well established in the rest of this post that everyone believes that is a Futurama reference to Bender's recent vandalism stint.
Suck on that.
carebear Feb 7th 2011 3:12PM
this is a quote from futurama?
"But all things considered, this is a pretty cool piece of vandalism."
Orly?
Socialcockroach Feb 7th 2011 6:12PM
Yarly... in the episode "Bender Should Not Be Allowed on TV," (episode 6 of season 4), Bender says the following:
"You're watching Futurama: the show that does not advocate the cool crime of robbery"
Sky Feb 7th 2011 6:19PM
"I don't think anyone here is thinking "zomg vandlizm iz so kewl, ima go dew it nao."
Well actually you are. Giving this picture undue attention (by laughing at it) is giving vandals positive reinforcement. Why do you think people vandalize? They get nothing out of it (materially) and they risk getting punished for it. The reason is people like you laugh at the picture and vandals actually think that what they are doing is "cool"
If your mother/sister/daughter got raped and people thought it was "funny" how would that make you feel?
carebear Feb 7th 2011 6:59PM
nice try Socialcockroach, but that's not Elizabeth Wachowski said at all. besides it doesn't really matter does it? you're still just fishing for excuses
