Jesus... no sense of humor you people...
Also disclaimer, not really hating on RIFT. Yes, it did rip of WoW in a major way, from mechanics down to the hotkey-setup and UI layout. The class system is at least heavily inspired by other multi-class systems e.g. Guild Wars. The Rifts are heavily inspired by Warhammer Online's public quests. And so on. It does some of the stuff well, some not (e.g. the boring "Kill X" quests). I don't actually think it's a *bad* game, just not as innovative as it could be.
WoW also borrowed from other games, Rift may actually be somewhat similar to what WoW started out as.
I wouldn't have cared about the game either way, good or bad, if they hadn't run such an obnoxious ad campaign. FFS "You are not in Azeroth anymore."when they pretty much release WoW 1.5?
If you have tons of innovation in your game so that it *truly* doesn't resemble another MMO *then* you can be a little haughty and make such a claim (that has a "not in old, boring Azeroth anymore, our game is much cooler and new and shiny" vibe), if you can back it up with your game. RIFT is not such a game, at least what I've seen from the beta and reviews so far.
Why did I make the joke? Hell, I love WoW and I'll still make fun of it if a good opportunity presents itself, all in good humor. As for not finding it funny, that's subjective and hell, the whole "sunglasses/yeah" joke was beaten to death a long time ago and still people do it so I might as well chime in.
