4.0.6 for Wow is essentially a 'fix all the broken stuff we launched' patch; there's really nothing new or meaningful. Given how dead the end game is at the moment, blizzard better get cracking on a really good 4.1 patch with new zones and content to play -- double threat of SW:TOR and RIFT finally represent solid threats to Blizzard. Cataclysm has been a very disappointing expansion so far, i doublt they'll keep people subscribed all the way through to their next expansion.

Aka "WoW is going to completely die once SW and RIFT launch" Rift is a WoW clone and the way EA and LucasArts run their games, it's going to crash.

Ant, calling a game a clone of another game that came before it is such a hollow point of view. Yes, Rift took a lot of elements of WoW and implemented in their game. Is that bad? Is it lazy developers? I don't know, perhaps you should ask Blizzard the same thing about taking a lot of elements of Everquest and implementing them in WoW. WoW is a great game. It was a better game during it's Vanilla and TBC days, but that is just my opinion. I still sub to WoW and I still play WoW. Doesn't mean I have to hate on every other MMO on the market.

Totally disagree about WoW endgame. I'm fairly casual in my raiding, but really loving this tier. Fun fights, fun mechanics, and challenging, even pre-heroics. Once we finally finish off Cho'gall and move onto Nefarian and Al'Akir, heroics seem like a great challenge too. Far from a dead endgame, in my (admittedly casual) opinion.Looking forward to RIFT too. Seems like an interesting change of pace, and I'll be interested to see how it holds up and develops over the next year once its endgame takes shape.

Any software developer will tell you that nothing that big can go into production totally working and balanced and bugless. As for "Cataclysm has been a very disappointing expansion so far", get a grip! It's awesome, and no RIFT and SW will not kill WoW.

If you've played Rift, it's more than just a clone of WoW. Item names reused, item graphics nearly identical, default keybindings are almost all the same, etc. It's fun, they've added new things that aren't WoW, but there are so many nearly exact similarities. It won't kill WoW, but it'll lure some people away for a bit.

Draknareth, I don't understand where it is important whether or not Rift "kills" WoW or not. Clearly it won't and it isn't designed to. The only idiots that are saying that it will are WoW haters. Who are just as dumb as the rabid WoW fanboys who freak out whenever another MMO is mentioned.WHY does the release of ANY other game have to come down to that game vs. WoW. I understand the comparisons, WoW is the at the top of the MMO heap as far as subs by a long shot. But where is it stated in MMO law that you cannot like more than one MMO at once? The attitude of your average MMO player when it comes to other MMO's is dumb, irrational and immature.

My comment was more for the top guy moaning about the 4.06 patch and things not being perfect, and the supposed "threat to WoW". I don't have a problem with other MMO's, I'm looking forward to see if TOR is actually any good (Big SW fan), it wouldn't pull me away from WoW, but it would give me more choice in what I play each day. I agree people need to grow up where the "it's gonna kill WoW" is concerned, same for the people screaming "it's gonna crash and burn" for the new MMO's. Still with RIFT they should never have done the "We're not in Azeroth anymore" thing because it was just daft and it's very WoW like.
2-08-2011 @ 11:27AM
I don't like the "We're not in Azeroth anymore" add. But I know why they did it. I pre-ordered the RIft collectors edition, I have been playing the closed Beta. I doubt I will play the open Beta too much simply because I know how many people will be there ONLY to troll the game. I'm done with people like that.

Let's face it the add was in poor taste you could say, but damn it really grabbed peoples attention even if it was in a bad way. People have always said "any publicity is good publicity" whether that is really true remains to be seen, but let's wait before we judge eh?

"If you've played Rift, it's more than just a clone of WoW."Guys, you're missing something here. WoW is/was a clone of EQ when it came out, with some new ideas/improvements. Pretty much what RIFT is right now.Today EQ is still around, but WoW (an EQ clone) is the most succesfull MMO in history. Why can't RIFT (a WoW clone) be the same?History tends to repeat itself many times. Give it a few years, and we'll see.

@Naughtyzoot. (and alot of others too actually)Please be fair when comparing 1 MMO to another & try to be objective.I recently got to play in the RIFT Beta Event & as a long time player of WoW (feb 05) here are my thoughts & responses.A Sword is still a Sword, a Health Potion is still a Health Potion, A Bag is still a Bag - It really doesnt matter what you call them or how you draw them they are still representation of an existing type of item & comparisons to any game with those types of items is ultimately a fruitless execise. There is only so much scope for change & often refinement is the better course of action. Its not suprising also that Defualt Key-bindings are the same or similar - Any Game, Any MMO, especially new-ones value the factor that is the ease of which new players can pick up & play thier game - if your looking to bring in players from games that are in direct competition with yours, ease of use & button familiarity are sensible tools to use in bringing them quickly & smoothly into your game & helps them settle into what they are really here for - Style, Content, Mechanics & Storyline. For me RIFT has a lot to offer - a more realisticly stylised environment while maintaining heavy Fantasy elements in comparison to Blizzards 'cartoonish' approach. The Graphics and styling of RIFT provide great atomospherics imo. The RIFT invasion mechanic adds an exciting new element to the general monotony & grind of leveling up in ANY mmo, not just wow - Guild wars 2 looks like its going to take a slightyly different route of making quests more interactive with the environment & allowing players actions to be remembered by NPC's whether they Despise or Admire them. The Ascendancy System for RIFT is a new twist to player developement that allows you to think outside the box for your character with more flexability to the roles you'll play within the game.Whether these things make RIFT Better than wow or not will be totally down to the individual playing it.Like many i dont expect RIFT to be a 'wow-killer' - In fact i dont believe thats even going to be a feat possible by any 'specific' MMO title, the only thing that will 'kill' wow will be the rising 'Choice' of available MMO's to play. Blizzard have had the lions share not necessarily because they are Better than other MMO's but because they've been the best 'choice' from a limited stack of options. As new companies develope new games blizzards strangle hold will slowly relinquish.I expect we'll be having the same discussions when 'Titan' hits the streets.
