Breakfast Topic: How was your first Cataclysm heroic group?

My grinding had finally paid off: i329, and I was ready. With a trembling hand, I moused over "Random Cataclysm Heroic." I clicked. I had heard the rumors and the tales of woe. Guildies had warned us all of the terrors that lie in the heroic PUG.
I gulped and settled in for my long DPS queue. In the middle of killing some Cultists in Twilight Highlands, the dungeon popped. My heart rate doubled. I zoned in to Blackrock Caverns. I knew right away that we were in trouble. The DPS consisted of two mages and a hunter. We wiped on the first pull. Slowly, we made it to Rom'ogg. We cleared the first part of the room, and the tank pulled Rom'ogg. And the healer pulled the rest of the trash. We wiped. We came back to try it again ... and the other mage's Mirror Image pulled the rest of the trash. The tank dropped group. The next tank joined us, announced, "I hate coming in on a wipe," and then called me a Very, Very Bad Name (not to be confused with your Average Garden Variety Bad Name). I determined that I paid my $15 a month to have fun -- and split.
What was your first Cataclysm heroic experience? Was it a complete disaster, or did you miraculously pull an awesome group?

It was fine. I levelled fairly fast so i guess that helped get a good group. Sure, we wiped a few times, and hard to work hard, but we got there.

Same here. I was 85 by the end of day 2, and thanks to LW I was able to make enough gear to squeak me past the 329 required. First heroic was Deadmines, and thankfully the group was determined and intelligent enough to figure out what went wrong.
We finally got it after about 3 hours. That first week of heroics was the most fun I've had playing WoW by far.

Same here, I had a good experience in my first random. I never bother with normal dungeons, they are a waste of time for me (I come from BC and also I can follow instructions, read guides, etc). So I went straight to heroics. My first random was Grim Batol, and I found it actually fun but a bit long at that time. I got paired with good players and despite 2 wipes, it went smooth. The group had a good attitude about the run, and even when wiping we just tried to figure out what to do instead of blaming or ragequitting.
I think it was more about the good attitude of the people than the fact that we were good players.

My first heroic? VP no wipes pug. The best heroic I've been in.

exactly the same for me.

I also got Vortex Pinnacle, but it was miserable, miserable, miserable, and all because of Altarius. I was healing, had just barely met the gear requirements, and did not have enough mana regen to outlast all my DPS standing in tornadoes. It was also my first run of VP period, and it took several tries to be able to recognize the graphic for the winds. I'm sure it'd be easier now, but I still shudder when I think of healing VP heroic.

Aaahhh, my first PuG was a stonecore pug. And, guess what? No wipes, just like you! I was going "O_o wut" to myself the entire time, as I had heard horror stories about The Stonecore. But I decided not to question a good thing and continued on through the dungeon until somebody pulled some trash on Ozruk which wiped us, told his guildy that it was me for some reason, and then they kicked me without even saying a word to me. I HATE it when people kick you without telling you if it's not inherently obvious why.
And as for Altarius... I got in a similar PuG. We spent an hour doing nothing but wiping on Altarius before eventually disbanding. It was a great group with friendly people that wanted to do nothing but continue the dungeon, but it just grew too tedious after a long, long time. I hate that dragon. With a LUST.

Once I can get my computer desk to hit 88 MPH, I'll let you know. ^_^ Altaholism is great for experiencing the remade world but not so good for running heroics.

I'm with you there. Between getting all my rare-spawn pets on my main, getting hunter II started in Vash AND trying to get the Worgen huntress up to speed... I'm not geared to go any where near a heroic yet and... I'm kind of ok w/ that right now.
I DO NOT pug so it'll be a while yet.
Heck, I'm more concerned with farming the mats for the craft-able pvp set than with getting into a heroic right now.
MattKrotzer Feb 11th 2011 8:09AM
Mine was challenging, but quite good. Fortunately, it was with guildmates, rather than PUG-folk.
Orrdeath Feb 11th 2011 9:07AM
My first heroic was SFK and it was hard with mostly all questing items. but it was done with the guild. Helps to run with others that know there class. I don't condone running random dungeons, it's bad for your health.
MattKrotzer Feb 11th 2011 9:08AM
And your sanity.

I got told to learn to trap by a warrior that marked nothing, thunderclapped like it was going out of fashion and taunted distracting shotted mobs back to him. To say I came out less than enthused is an understatement.
Jorges Feb 11th 2011 9:11AM
I hear you.
There's a lot of tanks out there that still think they can lolaoe pulls or the healer will keep them alive no matter what. You try to carefully trap (or root/hybernate for me) something and they go straight to your CC.
Wake up people, we're not in WotLK anymore!
loop_not_defined Feb 11th 2011 9:21AM
So wait a minute...are you suggesting that...as a tank...I'm - not - invincible?
Awww fug...
Can I still wear my Superman cape? :(
Eirik Feb 11th 2011 2:49PM
Bah. Keep your cape? They made me give mine back! Now the best I can do is fall from 500' up in Tanaris. And I tell ya, "falling with style" ain't nothing like flying.

First heroic: The Stonecore with guildies. 4 hours later (and many expletives uttered) we were triumphant. We screenshotted that bitch.
Arbolamante Feb 11th 2011 9:37AM
Stonecore with guildies was my first heroic also. I could not heal through that dang worm boss for love or money. It was a while before I ventured back into a heroic, lol.
Zelius Feb 11th 2011 10:25AM
Heh, my first heroic experience was exactly the same. Spent about 4 hours in Stonecore with a few guildies. It was frustrating, yet still a lot of fun.
My first heroic pug was a VP run. I think I got lucky, because we had a very patient tank and healer who explained every fight in detail. On top of that, CC and DPS in general was very coordinated.
Cuts Feb 11th 2011 8:12AM
Yeah, my first and only heroic pug so far as a healer I was vote kicked for being a *insert bad name here* healer, mainly because the DPS just couldn't stay out of light beams at third boss in Lost City of the Tol'vir, which led to that darkness phase where everyone was at really low health and I was around 40% mana, and not able to rely on Light of Dawn, because everyone was running like crazy from the Harbinger, scattered all around the map.
But it's cool... now that justice points are easier to get, I guess Heroics will be smoother (plus I'm helping guildies to gear up on normals so I wont get vote kicked out of nowhere again).
