From what I've read (eg, http://www.wowhead.com/item=64645#comments), it's not really worth grinding Arch for epic items. Takes too much time. I'm tempted to try it since I enjoy soloing, but I'm not sure it's an efficient payout.

Efficient? Good lord, no. There's no guarantee you'll ever get any of the epics from archaeology, no matter how many digsites you plunder.

On the other hand, if you're sitting in a half-hour queue, well, you've gotta do SOMETHING with that time...
