WRUP: Our patch 4.0.6 reactions

Another wonderful weekend is upon us. How are you planning to spend it? In addition, I asked our staff for a quick reaction to patch 4.0.6. Do they love it? Do they hate it? Totally neutral? What about you, readers?
Adam Holisky (@AdamHolisky): For some very strange reason, I've started playing the Sims 3 again. I go through addiction phases with those games, and I think I'm wearing myself out on it again. In WoW, I'll be playing my warrior a lot; getting full 333 gear via the normal dungeons is high on my priority list. As far as 4.0.6 goes, I absolutely love the changes to my resto druid. It is so much more fun to play now -- I don't have to constantly worry about group healing tactics and pre-healing the tank at certain points during fights. I can play in a more reactionary way and also have a much less stressful time with it all. The new alchy stones have helped a metric ton, too.
Alex Ziebart (@AlexZiebart): Since there is no RIFT until Feb. 15, it's going to be a primarily WoW weekend for me. I've hit exalted with my guild on my main character, which means I can finally play my alts as much as I please. My warrior is who I'll be gearing up next, because I absolutely love protection warriors. As for patch 4.0.6 ... well, it was all right. Like I said in my retribution paladin column last week, this patch had some really nice changes, but ret still needs some adjustments. I'm not going to get too excited, for or against, until patch 4.1.
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey): Doing more writing, doing a little raiding -- the usual, really. As far as 4.0.6 goes, I'm really indifferent about the whole thing. Nothing really affected my class/spec overly much, the new engineering changes are nice but not groundbreaking ... I just don't have a ton to be excited about this time around.
Basil Berntsen (@outdps): I'm going to be recording podcasts! And my reaction to 4.0.6 is that it's made me a ton of money, and they will probably nerf Aimed Shot.
Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb): With the new appearance pack out and the news that Clint Mansell's going to be doing the Mass Effect 3 soundtrack, I got the bug to play another ME2 game. He's an adept, faithful to Ashley, looks and acts like a total dudebro. The haste bugs are sort of harshing my mellow on patch 4.0.6, but I am liking a lot of the new UI improvements, and the fact that 2H frost isn't quite as much of a laughing stock outside of leveling anymore.
Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives): I'll be working on archaeology on my main and leveling my shaman.
Joe Perez (@Lodurzj): I'm taking the weekend off of WoW and diving into DC Universe Online full tilt for some much-needed doing of super-heroic deeds. This coming week is also my birthday, so I'll be taking the week off of raids and trying to have fun in the real world with friends and family (fun fact: this coming weeks Totem Talk: Restoration falls on my b'day). In celebration, I bought myself a new ukulele and a mandolin! I ... love ... patch 4.0.6. Resto shaman HPS has improved quite a bit compared to before the patch, and our tools feel better proportioned again. This makes raiding so much more enjoyable, and I was already having fun! Also, reduced flask mats makes me quite happy.
Josh Myers (@elamqt): In game, I'm working on leveling my frost DW/blood tank DK and leveling my paladin's alchemy to support my flask addiction. Out of game, I'm checking out P90X 'cause it sounds like an awesome idea and have a job interview on Monday. For the bonus question: I'm really happy with 4.0.6 so far, but I was predicting I would be for the past month or so!
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra): I think this might be a WoW-light weekend for me. I'm craving some Steam time. As for the new patch, I'm pretty indifferent. Sure, I'm happy about a few things (and not thrilled about others), but all in all, it's pretty cool. Although I will agree that the dismounting "flourish" is a bit much.
Lisa Poisso (@emused): Not a lot of WoW this weekend -- free game time has sucked me back to revisit my crew in EQ and prepare for possibly trying a little ruining of the homelands on the Fippy Darkpaw progression server next week. Barrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk! As for the patch, I'm looking forward to things settling down; I like that the game has some mobility, but stability has it benefits as well.
Matt Low (@matticus): Leveling another priest. ... Yeah. Another one. What? Why you looking at me all funny? I can't have multiple priests? Why you hatin'?! Reaction to 4.0.6: Too busy casting many bubbles to respond! Discipline's really strong now. Loving the buffs.
Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo): Writing and raiding. Lots of fun. I think 4.0.6 is fine so far. Changes needed to be made. We'll know more once we get more time with everything.
Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel): Playing my various alts, back pain permitting. I am mostly enjoying 4.0.6 but really want the game to be untouched for a while (except maybe to add content).
Sarah Nichol (@mentalshaman): I will be raiding and collecting archaeology bits and bobs. I might play some Europa Universalis III if I get a chance or finish off The Black Prism by Brent Weeks. My initial reaction to 4.0.6 was "happy," but after a night of interrupt duty, I'm feeling pretty grouchy.

I'm enjoying WF/FT a lot more than FT/FT which I was using previous to the patch, and I can't wait to switch back to disc on my priest (which ive preferred over holy) without death threats from groups I join

@Sarah Nichol: awesome! it is good to see another Paradox Interactive fan - I'm tempted to buy their sequel to Victoria: Empire Under the Sun (I have EU, EUII, EUIII, CK, Vicky, HoI, HoII) - I can't quite remember which expansions I bought - WoW had me swallowed hook, line and sinker for 4+ years but am feeling an ever stronger call to return to the Paradox fold.

Echoing the Paradox awesomeness. I'm currently playing an EUIII game during the times I don't feel like logging in. I'm also thinking about buying Victoria II--Walmart has it here marked down to $29, I'm tempted to wait and see if they'll drop it even further.

My main is disc/shadow so I'm happy. I'm also loving hunters autoshot while moving. I'm probably going to lvl my hunter up if not for outlands and non insta queue unlike my Druid.

I do the same thing, Adam. I think the Sims 3 is just good at having addiction phases. I will not play for a couple of months then suddenly play nothing but that all the time for weeks.
Trilynne Feb 12th 2011 3:35PM
Me 3! :P But Adam Holisky is not someone I would have expected to be playing the Sims 3... 0.o
Cassie Feb 13th 2011 12:04AM
I recently did the exact same thing, actually. That game is something that you just play in waves, I think. Crazy addictive when you get into it though.

Dismounting "flourish" -- ha ha!
Yeah, that thing is horrible -- maybe designed by the same numskull who did the new Epic belts, making my poor little BE Priestess look like she's all preggo.

Lisa Poisso: YES! Fippy Darkpaw server! Although it sucks cause it's exactly the same day the RIFT beta begins.... ughhhh decisions! Right in the middle of the week too, like I can't spend half a Saturday on RIFT and the other on EQ.
It's cool to see someone excited about the new Prog server!
As for the patch, well I quit last week but for the past three weeks I had been hyped about the Crit Meta making sense. Too bad my Hunter's still gonna have blue gems until everything else gets boring and I get back into it.
Tim Feb 12th 2011 3:01PM
My birfday is Sunday so I'm WoWing it up today. I actually feel like playing. And yeah, the dismount flourish is a bit much. I thought my Rogue had some stealthing issues.
By the by, where is Christian, Fox, and Zach's WRUP comments?
As for 4.0.6 I really don't have much to say. I did notice my mana bar on my druid doesn't drop to half doing one healing spell. Maybe I will try dungeons now to get him some heroic ready gear.

Grabbing the Peddlefeet on my main to finish up what I want from the holiday, continuing to clean up my account for storage, then looking over this increasing backlog of games. I'm not even buying them and my brothers don't have any money, so I don't know where most of these new games are coming from. There's like 4 games in front of my 360 I've never seen before. Then my brother bought a PS3, Sims 3, and Little Big Planet 2. I have to relearn using a controller all over again. So imprecise. XP

Recently quit wow, but I still check back here because this is an awesome site. I've been loving DC Universe Online a lot. Also been playing CoD Black Ops with my IRL friends

Having Riftdrawals... I keep looking toward the skies, I fear the clouds, is it time yet?

My Unholy DK is crap now.
What bugs me the most is that Bliz nerfed/hotfixed Deaths Advance to 75% down from 100% without telling anyone. It even says in the talent, right now, that movement effects shall not slow player from 100% movement speed, well something to that affect. But when I see the buff when I'm practicing on training dummies, it's not 100%, it's 75%.
I hope this is a mistake, but if it's not, it's really shady for a company to change things without letting its customers know about it.
Mr. Tastix Feb 12th 2011 5:49PM
It's in the hotfixes but they didn't tell anyone before they done it. The DK community over on the forums actually found out -before- Blizzard added the change in the hotfix notes. It's rather appalling, really.
Other than that, I don't mind the patch too much, we just need more communication from Blizzard about upcoming hotfix changes and why things are being changed (or even -not- being changed, as the case may be).
Mr. Tastix Feb 12th 2011 5:51PM
Waiting on Rift! Gonna be levelling my Death Knight before then, hopefully I'll be able to push him through to 85. Then I've only got one more to go... ugh, Deepholm. Just thinking about that place gives me the chills. Hate it!
