Breakfast Topic: Did you accomplish your Lunar Festival goals?

Try to hold back your tears: Lunar Festival, the World of Warcraft in-game holiday based around the Chinese New Year, has come to an end. Personally, I don't know what I'm going to do with myself now that the event is over. I've been spending the past few weeks obsessively running old and outdated dungeons on my max-level characters, watching 20 different people standing around Moonglade without any idea about how to summon Omen, and deleting tons of spam-like in-game mail from all sorts of "elders." And what do I have to show for it? Nothing, because I still haven't done the stupid Children's Week PvP achievements. (And I probably never will.)
But enough about me. What about you? Did you accomplish your goals for the Lunar Festival? And, gosh darn, how are you ever going to survive the next 40-plus months without experiencing the joy and fun of the holiday?
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has destroyed Azeroth as we know it; nothing is the same! Seconded. I was compulsive on these for my first alt, but after the drake, my alts are suffering from a severe bout of Meh?

I was eager at first, as I like the travel holidays for getting xp and seeing the world. Once I realized they'd removed xp from the elders, I didn't bother with any of it.

That is exactly how I was. I have the Violet Proto drake on two toons, but I am leveling a warrior with my wife. We went to the first elder and all it gave was rep. We then promptly said, 'Ehh...nevermind, not worth it'.
MusedMoose Feb 13th 2011 9:27AM
I swear, as soon as I read that first paragraph, I knew Mr. Van Allen had written this article. :P
As for my goals, yes, I achieved them - I got nifty outfits for most of my alts. I already have the 'Elder' title on my main mage, who's now just two achievements away from the Violet Proto-Drake.

"forty-plus months"?! Did Blizz make some sneaky announcement about cancelling the holiday next year? Is the Chinese calendar not going to increment because the world is ending? Or was that supposed to be in weeks, rather than months? :)
Ronin Feb 13th 2011 9:51AM
Yeah, what the?
wybenga42 Feb 14th 2011 9:04AM
Idem. 40-plus months?

I managed to get my Elder title on my Shaman this year. I did this on a Paladin two years prior, and spent the majority of this year telling my guild "You kids have it too easy!" and "Back in MY day, we have to run to the elders on ground mounts, uphill both ways, in the snow!"
Omen was being continually killed the first few days, so I just flew over there to see what was going on, and his corpse was all ready laying there and glowing. Just had to walk into the light, since the actual kill isn't require.
Really, Epic flying made this pretty much -too- easy. The most difficult part was seeing we didn't have Wintergrasp, logging out to make lunch, and coming back to see we did have it.

No :(
Between two jobs, I really only had time to play after 10pm, and if I wanted my RL "rested bonus" I needed to sleep by 11. So... no time to run around getting all the elders this time around. I've got the elders of Kalimdor, a few dungeon elders... And that's it aside from non-elder achievements.
Sad. All I needed was this and hallow's end. I busted my behind to get all the children's week ones and then I fall flat on those two holidays. Well, there's always next year, right?

Wait, I thought it ended today...
Ah, well. My lowbie engineer will get her rocket schematics next year.

It's my favourite festival :-) This year I finally got the "Elder" title for the characters that weren't high enough in level this time in 2010!
Ilmyrn Feb 13th 2011 10:47AM
Yes, I did.
I did NOTHING.
I was going to do it on my DK, until I realized they'd removed the gold from talking to Elders. Take that away, for understandable reasons perhaps, but even so, take it away and it's easily the (mechanically) worst holiday in-game, with what is, by ow, extremely dated design. All the other holidays have recieved makeovers by now. Hopefully the Lunar Festival can get a facelift next year.

Got the title on my two high level characters and put a good dent in my goblin's elder achievements for next year (just need to get the dungeon elders next year). So yeah, got done everything I wanted to and more. But really, I'd be more than happy if this holiday disappeared off the face of Azeroth forever.

It can sounds off-topic, but my goal during those days was to get to wield a set of Azzeroth Warglaives in T6.
Goal achieved.

I've had this done since 2008 and did the Wrath elders last year. So this year, we ran special events to help guild members finish this if they wished. In the process, we got several guild achievements for dungeons completed and a number of people got "the Explorer" titles. We killed Omen as a guild on a couple days, doing it several times so alts could get in on the fun. Plus, early on, someone pointed out that visiting elders counted towards the 50k Questing guild achievement so people, like me, who had this done, would hit up elders whenever our travels took them near one.
I feel your pain, Fox. "Nothing, because I still haven't done the stupid Children's Week PvP achievements. (And I probably never will.)" That's all I have left for the meta, too. We've talked about it in guild and we will make a concerted effort to get these done as a guild, since we're not a PvP guild. We have a "Love Is In The Air" event this week so folks who can't stand BG's can run with a group to pity the fool in AB. I'd like the drake but I understand Basil Bernsten's POV, too. Beyond running the Chemical Company bosses in the hopes of getting the pet, I've not done any of the Valentine's quests.

@ Gimmlette: Why are Children's Week PvP achievements "stupid". They are no more stupid that the PvE dungeon achievements. Some people might ask why they have to do a dungeon to have a 20% shot at a green santa hat.
Wow is a diverse game. The achievements help to introduce people to areas of the game players may well not have experienced.
Don't be so myopic.
Gimmlette Feb 13th 2011 2:16PM
I run a guild that does everything WOW has to offer. I have PvP'ers and PvE'ers, although we are heavy on the "E" side of things. I have people who love to level and hate that their XP gets capped, and people like me who have, what someone in my guild calls, "creatively named bank toons that sometimes gain a level". To call me "myopic" (inability to see distant objects clearly because the images are focused in front of the retina; short-sightedness) is not to know me or the guild I run.
I understand the purpose of the Children's PvP events is to expose everyone to a section of WOW they might not choose to see. I choose to utilize this meaning of stupid, "annoying or irritating; troublesome".
Noyou Feb 13th 2011 11:46AM
Yep. Got the elder on my 85 rogue and lock. The rogue had most of the stuff from last year. The lock only had a few things. I said I would never do this one in particular again because of all the running around but I like what they did (Maps) with the vanilla dungeons. I actually had more problems with remembering and finding the relocated elders in the world.
So next year it will probably be my Shaman (42) and perhaps druid (22) that I am running around like crazy.
A little side note for anyone who needs the PvP Childrens week Avhieve: Do yourself a favor and do it on the first day if you can. I have found that the opposition is infinitely nicer early in the campaign. Don't wait like I did til midweek and threaten to /ragequit if you didn't get it because that's all you needed for your proto :) GL!

Since I hadn't been able to play for weeks, I only had about 3 days to do all of Lunar Festival. I had finished late last night about an hour before the event ended. The last elder I had to talk to was in Wintergrasp and luckily for me, my side controlled it. If the Horde had it, I would've had to wait until next year to get To Honor One's Elders.
