The Sylvanas card art....
Wow.
Samual Barshow Feb 15th 2011 8:56PM
What's the loot?
NekoDaimyo Feb 15th 2011 9:19PM
I would assume the loot from the Icecrown set, wrathgate set, or perhaps even the entire scourgewar block would be possible. Could also be Worldbreaker loots.
I'm more curious what's going to be in the treasure packs, as a fair whack of ICC gear has been used for the Worldbreaker set, as it is.
NekoDaimyo Feb 15th 2011 9:24PM
Actually, looking at the product page http://www.wowtcg.com/products/assault-icecrown-citadel for the "deck" it looks to use the worldbreaker loot cards.

Finding those galleries are pretty damn hard. All I can find are a few artworks for other sets, can't find the one for this set.

I only found four images from this one, which is a shame, because the artwork is gorgeous:

"The best part? Each deck comes with that hero's legendary weapon, from Ashbringer to Frostmourne."
What are Jaina's and Sylvanas' weapons? I didn't think they had 'named' lore weapons.
NekoDaimyo Feb 15th 2011 9:20PM
The Staff of Antonidas and Deathwhisper, respectively. Which are named in the quoted article.
Talothan Feb 15th 2011 9:27PM
Huh, that's what I get for not reading all the way through. Would the staff be Archus, Greatstaff of Antonidas (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50731)?
Ji Feb 16th 2011 4:10AM
I have never heard of Deathwhisper.
RetPallyJil Feb 15th 2011 9:47PM
That painting of Tirion Fordring in the banner is totally bitchin'!
Whoops, did I just show my age again? Gag me with a spoon :C
Kylenne Feb 15th 2011 9:48PM
I always thought he was a silver fox. ;)

"Valley Girl speak" being considered "old people speak", makes me concerned for people's perception of age. (This is not a dig at you, I just think it's funny that someone younger would consider people old for using it.)
Hopefully people won't start associating it with it.
RetPallyJil Feb 16th 2011 2:56AM
Oh no doubt - a pally girl could do a LOT worse than Tirion Fordring!
/call Jil, big fella!
Diavola Feb 16th 2011 12:51AM
That picture of Bolvar Fordragon makes me saaaaaaaad.

The WoW TCG can be best summarized as a two fold game of chess. The first part is to pick the pieces you wish to play with, which is building a deck. Secondly is playing with that deck, that is where real skill comes in as you have to work with the randomness of what you are dealt. You can certainly skip the first step as a new player by just picking up a Class Starter Deck of your favorite Faction and Class!
I demo WoW TCG almost every night of the week in stores around Raleigh, NC and I'm sure if you have a gaming store near where you live that a Champion of the Black Flame would be happy to give a demo of the game to you there. You can find stores with active players here:

The TCG has similar mechanics to Magic: The Gathering. Compared to other TCGs, its actually price competitive and for people wanting to make a tournament worthy deck, it is a lot cheaper.
There is a reasonably good explanation here:
http://www.wowwiki.com/World_of_Warcraft_Trading_Card_Game
I've been playing it for several years and its a lot of fun (the main benefit for me is that it gets me away from a computer and out meeting real people). You can play it socially -- as a raid or a free for all with friends -- or play in 1vs1 PvP at a local level all the way up to world level tournaments for big prizes. At the highest level there are real money prizes ($10,000+), Spectral Tiger loot cards and other shiny things for grabs.
If you have a decent hobby store in your local area, the chances are they will stock the TCG and they may be able to show you the basics of the game.

It's a TCG, it's like Magic:The Gathering (if I had to compare it to anything) except instead of you being a wizard that conjures and summons your deck to defeat the other wizard (read, player) you have a hero card and use your other cards to buff your hero and help them out in defeating the other player's hero. Alternatively, there are also raid decks in which case one player plays as the raid (the equivalent of D&D's DM or dungeon master I suppose) and other players play as the heroes fighting their way through the raid.
I hesitate to compare it to D&D in any way as it obviously has little to nothing in common with it in terms of how the game is played. It's (obviously) a TCG.
By "what's the point" I don't know what you want. It's a game. If you don't see why it's such a big deal then to you it isn't, who cares.

Just a small observation here... when the OP mentions not playing TCGs, and not being familiar with the TCG experience or understanding the draw to a TCG and then asking what the TCG is like.... saying "well, I know you don't understand the concept of a TCG, but it's just like this other popular TCG that you also probably haven't played" is probably not going to make the OP understand what you're explaining.
Having said that, i'm old and stuff and I don't get TCGs either.
I do have two toons with the Flag of Ownership though, so that part I like! lol
