The TCG has similar mechanics to Magic: The Gathering. Compared to other TCGs, its actually price competitive and for people wanting to make a tournament worthy deck, it is a lot cheaper. There is a reasonably good explanation here:http://www.wowwiki.com/World_of_Warcraft_Trading_Card_GameI've been playing it for several years and its a lot of fun (the main benefit for me is that it gets me away from a computer and out meeting real people). You can play it socially -- as a raid or a free for all with friends -- or play in 1vs1 PvP at a local level all the way up to world level tournaments for big prizes. At the highest level there are real money prizes ($10,000+), Spectral Tiger loot cards and other shiny things for grabs. If you have a decent hobby store in your local area, the chances are they will stock the TCG and they may be able to show you the basics of the game.
