Breakfast Topic: What's your favorite piece of music in WoW?
World of Warcraft is a game with great sound and great sound design. Players might not always notice it, but for those of us who play with the music on, these themes can really set the tone for the game. Ashenvale music never fails to remind me of my first foray into the zone; after Darkshore, which was a bit bleak, my baby druid stepped into Ashenvale and it seemed like all of Azeroth opened up, wide and colorful and filled with swelling orchestral tracks. Though the game world seems much smaller to me now, I still remember that moment whenever I hear the Ashenvale theme.
My favorite piece of WoW music, however, has got to be the one in Mulgore. I play mainly Alliance, so I don't go there often, but every time I visit the zone for the Darkmoon Faire or head to Thunder Bluff for some holiday achievement, I'm struck by the beauty and tranquility of the Mulgore music. It really fits the environment, and it never fails to relax me when I fly through. The slow, soft yearning reminds me of the Tauren people and their culture, while the undercurrent of tension hints at the conflict brewing in the world outside that secluded valley.
What's your favorite piece of WoW music? Does it remind you of a particular time or a nostalgic feeling, or is it the pure beauty of the composition that you admire? When do you feel the WoW music is at its most epic?

Sylvanas' song. first toon was a Belf Pally and seeing that sequence and hearing that song was mesmerizing to me.
I also have to agree with the old Ashenvale music....the new one is ok but i tend to stay still where the old bits kick in.

Yep, this is the one for me too. It's the only piece of music I've sought out outside of game just so I could listen to it again without making a baby horde to do the questline.

Oh, wait. I'm assuming by "sylvana's song" you mean "lament of the highborne". If you mean some other song, I take it back. =p

For me, Assault on New Avalon

If that's not epic, i don't know what it is :)

Definitely liked the Storm Peaks music. Sometimes I would just sit in that zone with music on loop while waiting for a queue to pop or something.

So this! The mournful voices mixing with the music. Made it very ethereal and kinda sad. I actually listen to it in my car too. And Grizz Hills is a close second.

Now that Northrend is populated as much as... well... the Arctic Circle, Storm Peaks music is even more fitting.

Storm Peaks is probably my favorite too. I spent a LOT of time herb farming there, and every time I had to pause for a moment to reflect on how much I loved the gorgeous music. In fact, it may be time to take a trip back there to hear it one more time...

Totems of the Grizzlemaw!

Definitely. Particularly the fiddle piece that starts when you first step into Grizzly Hills and /will not stop/ even if you walk out again. It must know it is just that good!
I just really like a lot of the Wrath soundtrack, though. =)

Grizzly Hills for sure, whenever I fly through the zone I stop for a minute and just listen. It's a shame that players don't have to experience that zone from ground level anymore, by far one of my favorite zones in the game.

I love that song too, and so does the Waffle industry, Everytime I accidentally fly through it doing Arch. I have to run to the store and buy waffles, dripping with maple syrup.

This is my favorite. I love it so much.
(with Storm Peaks, just above, a close runner up.)

I never really appreciated the depth of music and sound effects until I listened to the game with headphones.
Even the sounds of the footsteps and flapping of wings was pretty amazing. This is a damn good game we play.

Definitely "Lament of the Highborne" is the best piece of music I have ever come across in WoW.

Stormwind Valley of Heroes Music.
Great way to enter a capital city, very cathartic.
Harvoc Feb 16th 2011 11:54AM
What I was thinking. Stormwind's music is very valorous, courageous, powerful in how it sounds.
Bernie Roscoe Feb 16th 2011 8:11AM
However, for an entire zone I would have to say Grizzly Hills and Howling Fjord. Fits the zone very well.

^This. There's a lot of good music in WOW, but I have always loved HF and GH.
