As luck would have it, no, I wasn't aware of the change way back when. Between BC and Wrath, I was too busy trying to get my warlock to 70 before Wrath released; priest changes didn't really concern me at that point. And with the release of 3.1, I was having a blast with both the warlock and my shiny new DK. In short, that particular change never reached my... eyes? Ears? To each their own, in that case...I still think the nerf is pretty well called for, though. Like I said, it makes it feel more like an 'oshi-' button now, as opposed to what others were treating it as - their primary 'heal'.Now I just feel like an uninformed douche, and rightly so. :P Thank you for informing me.
