Blaming the current raid design as the reason your rogue is retired is really lame, IMO - especially since Paragon stacked ROGUES for their Al'Akir world 1st, and had plenty of rogues in raid for many of their other heroic 1st kills (I see 3 rogues for sinestra, 2 for cho'gall, 1 for ascendant council, 2 for valonia & theralion, 3 for chimaeron, 1 for omnotron, 2 for conclave, etc etc.).
Melee spots have always been difficult to get in good raids. You need to be good, you need to be persistent, and you need to be consistent to earn a spot in a good raid. Melee dps is the most common type of wow player out there, so you are going to be in competition with a lot of like-minded players. Even in more casual raiding, there is a certain amount of competition for spots among melee dps. I'm sure anyone who has run a pug has turned down what seems like a bajillion "dk dps here" /tells.
If you are really good, and follow through, you'll get those raid spots though.
