The Queue: Ragequitter redux

Yesterday I gave you some advice on how not to get a rematch in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Today, I say to you that I have found the method so effective, so potent, that some players opt to physically turn their system off or unplug their ethernet cable in order to avoid the shame of loss to a dog that barks ice cubes.
Saekeion asked:
Does the reputation discount with a faction also apply to when you sell items? Do you get more money if you have a higher reputation with that faction? If so, does Goblin's Best Deals Anywhere apply to the amount of money you get for selling an item?
Good question, but no, sell prices for items aren't affected by any outside modifiers, including rep. They will always sell for the same amount.
Saither asked:
Is there a way to turn off "I can't do that yet" sounds? I really like my goblin hunter but he seems much more outspoken about what he can or cannot do than my other toons.
Those sounds can be disabled under "Error Speech" in your Sound menu.
Chris asked:
Got a question: When creating macros, is there an addon that will let you filter the icons so you can find the icon that goes with the spell for which you are writing a macro? I know I could just use a random one, but I like having the right icon with the spell.
Yep, just add #showtooltip to the beginning of the macro and it'll automatically use the icon for the spell in question. If there's more than one spell in the macro, use #showtooltip <spell name> and it'll use the icon of the spell you specify.
Fletcher asked:
At the beginning of questing in Uldum, during Jar-Jar Budd And The Infinite Cutscenes, we see Siamat undo the curse of flesh on the Neferset as a reward for bringing him Prince Nadun. It seems very much like the Neferset are working for Siamat.
However, in the Lost City dungeon, General Husam says "Siamat must not be freed!", and when you kill Prophet Barim and shatter the building Siamat is in, he seems kinda pleased to be out of there (but not pleased enough to not kill you).
So my question is; who's in charge there? What's the exact relationship between Al'akir, Siamat, and the Neferset?
Siamat was sent to the Neferset by Al'Akir. In exchange for their servitude, Siamat bestows upon them Deathwing's gift, which is returning them to their original stony state. Siamat, upon temporarily exhausting his powers by having to re-stone (or de-flesh) an entire city, is betrayed and imprisoned by the Neferset. When you run through Lost City, you're not only taking out the treacherous Neferset, you're also setting Siamat free for the express purpose of beating him silly. You don't mess around, do you?
WaterRouge asked:
Hunh..look at Captain America...standing nice and tall at the top. Eh Sacco?
That's right, I didn't forget your little comment about me always having Captain America in my team comps Mr. Sacco.
I never forget slams against Captain America.
Never.
Huh ... look at Captain America up there ... obliterated by a dog and controlled by a base coward. Eh, Rouge?

On my server it seems like there are a lot less people raiding now than there was in Wrath. Is there a way to actually see the numbers?
Neirin Feb 19th 2011 12:56PM
There are plenty of methods like wowprogress or a server progression thread, but they all rely on self-reporting and pugs are basically impossible to track.
Pugs are waaaaay down right now, obviously. Content is more difficult than the 30% ICC buff pugging people got used to and we aren't being showered in purples the second we hit 85, so people are more nervous about stepping into raids with strangers.
Guilds might also be struggling from the transition between expansions. The transition can give rise to all sorts of drama: 10 vs 25, new players wanting a shot, old players resubbing and wanting their old spots back, leveling, rerolling, progression going slow because it's fresh, etc. Take your pick.
Inexorability Feb 19th 2011 1:00PM
I don't know if there's a way to track the numbers, but I'd guess that you're probably right. The raids are still relatively new; as time goes on more casual people will start raiding more. Also, once people learn the fights and get most of the gear the want, they'll start running their alts.
Aurilia Feb 19th 2011 1:09PM
Keep in mind there are less raids to actually do.
Wrath started us off with 6 raid lockouts (not counting VoA)
Naxxramas 10-man
Naxxramas 25-man
Obsidian Sanctum 10-man
Obsidian Sanctum 25-man
Eye of Eternity 10-man
Eye of Eternity 25-man
This meant guilds could run both the 10-man content as a guild, and the 25-man content by pugging in a few extras to fill in the numbers needed. Or, alternatively, run the 25-man as a guild and then pug in some extras to run multiple 10-mans.
Cataclysm currently gives us only 3 raid lockouts, not counting TB.
Blackwing Descent
Bastion of Twilight
Throne of the Four Winds
With less raids to be run, people are forced to run fewer raids every week, which in turn leads to fewer pugs.

@Aurilia
In Wrath the 25 man content was harder. Generally people had to progress through the 10man content before going on to 25man. Also I'm not buying your argument that they didn't give us enough raids. That's like saying if they just gave us more tanks there wouldn't be a tank shortage. There is another reason there aren't as many people raiding in this expansion.
theRaptor Feb 19th 2011 2:06PM
Combining 10 and 25 into one raid lockout kills a lot of pugs. Why waste a potential lockout on pugs if you are in a guild?
Also the current raids in general aren't as easy as most of wrath. A lot of people got used to that 30% ICC buff carrying them through.
Pugs will be back to normal when the next tier comes out.
carebear Feb 19th 2011 2:33PM
I'm not sure how much of an impact not having the 30% buff is having. On my server there were plenty of pugs before any buffs at all.
DarkWalker Feb 19th 2011 2:34PM
In my own case, I found tanking Heroics with random groups so frustrating that I had to take a break with the game.
And I'm not going back unless the LFD is tweaked to, at least, block players from queuing for roles they can't properly fulfill in a Heroic - be it because they don't have the spec, they don't have the gear for the spec they queued for, they are trying to use the crafted PvP gear to get past the iLvl check, or whatever.
Skarn Feb 19th 2011 4:15PM
"Also I'm not buying your argument that they didn't give us enough raids."
It DOES have an effect though. As Aurilia pointed out, one person could do 6 raids per character per week at the start of Wrath. In Cata, you can only do 3 raids. There were definitely people in Wrath who would do one raid size with their guild and then go do the other raid size in a PuG. All of those extra PuGs are gone. For me, at the end of Wrath I would do ICC 10 hard modes, then go hit up ICC 25 looking for Deathbringer's Will and such. Now I just do 10s with my guild, no PuGs.
On top of that, the first tier of raiding in Cata is more difficult than it was in Wrath. That certainly has affected PuGs too.
Ez Feb 20th 2011 1:18AM
yes that and the Tanks keep copping out as soon as they enter a pug. So that makes it really hard, i end up tanking in unholy to string it along while we wait. Also heals are so hard for some, it is hard to find one that will stay.
Sedna Feb 20th 2011 11:59AM
I feel like part of the issue might also be a lack of well-geared alts. By the end of Wrath, it was possible to have your main and at least two or three alts geared up to take on most raids, what with easy random dungeon dailies. Right now people have had less time to gear alts, plus it feels like the entry curve is a little steeper than it once was. So while in late Wrath you could throw together a cohesive group with tank and healing alts from a couple of guilds and maybe some PuGs, now you have trouble finding the right composition of appropriately geared folks. (I hope this makes at least some sense, I'm still recovering from last night's luau. Mai tais are not meant to be drunk by the pitcherful.)

What are your speculation on the new 4.1 Hyjal? With it being healed how different is the leveling experience going to be? Will we level through the old one and at the end with Rag's "defeat" in that quest, will it phase?
Basically I'm asking what you would guess it'll be like.
omnibishop Feb 19th 2011 12:37PM
Not idea about the amount of healing it will go through, but my speculation is the area to the west of the spire will be used as the "dailies" area, similar in aspect to how the Argent Tournament was founded. The army moves closer to the Firelands and ask for your help gathering materials and fending off enemies.
Knob Feb 19th 2011 12:37PM
I would imagine there'll be a breadcrumb quest available at level 85 from Orgrimmar/Stormwind that sends you to Hyjal and that is the quest which will trigger the new phase.
Ianmis Feb 19th 2011 3:58PM
Will the new Hyjal dailys give rep for the Guardians of Hyjal or a new faction? Can't imagine it being the GoH. Just questing there now gets you to Revered without using the tabard.
Suzaku Feb 19th 2011 11:54PM
I believe they said the new Hyjal quests would be phased.
That is to say, you'll do the existing questline, which when completed already places you in a phase where it's partially healed. When 4.1 comes out, that phase will likely either have the zone fully healed, or there will be a simple series of breadcrumb quests which will lead to the new daily quest phase.

Is there a way for a macro to call another macro? Specifically, when making a mount macro, can I make one for random ground mounts, one for fliers, one for swimmers, etc, and then make a control macro that lets me use all my click modifiers to pick between them? Basically, I want to call macro subroutines.
MusedMoose Feb 19th 2011 12:11PM
I'm not certain that I completely understand what you're looking for, but this might help:

Sorcha Feb 19th 2011 12:20PM
Erm...I don't know if this is what you want, but I'm fairly sure you could put all that in one macro anyway.
I've got this one that I'm sure you could modify with a swimming clause and with modifiers for different classes:
#showtooltip Violet Proto-drake
/castrandom [nomounted]Sandstone Drake, Drake of the West Wind
/castrandom [nomounted]Swift Brewfest Ram, Red Skeletal Warhorse, Fiery Warhorse, White Skeletal Warhorse, Fossilized Raptor, Spectral Wolf
/dismount
Or am I misunderstanding, in which case I apologise!
(cutaia) Feb 19th 2011 12:26PM
You can certainly use something like:
/cast [mod:shift] Abyssal Seahorse; Time Lost Proto Drake
Something like this would call your seahorse when you press shift, but your TLPD any other time (you do have one of those, right?)
BUT...if you ask me...the best option here is to get Guppet. It's a wonderful mod that gives you a magic button to randomly call the correct mounts for the correct situations. It's customization is so deep that you could set it to call only horses when in Stormwind and only Rams when in Ironforge. Check it out.
