I feel like part of the issue might also be a lack of well-geared alts. By the end of Wrath, it was possible to have your main and at least two or three alts geared up to take on most raids, what with easy random dungeon dailies. Right now people have had less time to gear alts, plus it feels like the entry curve is a little steeper than it once was. So while in late Wrath you could throw together a cohesive group with tank and healing alts from a couple of guilds and maybe some PuGs, now you have trouble finding the right composition of appropriately geared folks. (I hope this makes at least some sense, I'm still recovering from last night's luau. Mai tais are not meant to be drunk by the pitcherful.)
