The Daily Quest: Toys, gadgets, games and fun
WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
One of my guildmates discovered the Comix addon this weekend, and though the thing serves no practical purpose in game at all whatsoever, it's keeping her incredibly entertained. That's the thing about toys; they aren't mean to be practical, they're meant to be fun. Today, we've got a few posts from around the blogosphere about fun and flashy gadgets -- although these are a little more useful than random sound effects.
- Disciplinary Action discusses the joys of playing WoW on an iPad.
- Totem Forest goes over setting up and using the shiniest of shiny addons, Power Auras, in a handy guide.
- Crits and Giggles ponders a very different kind of playtime -- what if you could make a group with yourself?

Many thanks for the shout-out to Disciplinary Action! It wasn't particularly practical to play WoW on the iPod, but *man*, was it fun! :D

After watching that video, I really, really need the Comix addon in my life.
Like right now.

I hate the very idea of add-ons, and even I just installed that stupid thing!

And it was not shown anywhere on the video, but you can report stuff like "jump report", "bad joke tracker", etc. And in case you want to maximize the fun out of the add on, get the comix plus too.
It is great fun during PvP, takes the edge off when you are losing continuously all day. I disable it for raids, just because it is too distracting.

I'm pretty sure I won't be alone to have INSTANTLY downloaded and started using this add-on.
Where have you been all my life?
Dadruidess Feb 21st 2011 10:06PM
It would make me want to hit people (and jump around) constantly, and never stop. Instead of, you know, go for the flag or something.
Totally worth it though.

(the Comix addon would)

The Comix add-on, to me, was flat out hilarious for the first couple of days I had it. Once I saw all of its tricks though, it became a bit grating (and it was certainly impossible for me to raid with it, too distracting) and I finally disabled it and haven't run it since before Cata dropped. But for that first couple of days, that thing was HILARIOUS.

I first saw the Comix add-on when I read a preivous add-on spotlight some time ago. I downloaded it and it was solely responsible for me leveling my Death Knight. I had completed the starting area when Wrath launched and never went back to him. After downloading it (and the A-team add-on), I was having so much fun killing things with my OP DK, i finished the grind to 80 in two weeks. One suggestion would be to turn off the idiotic jumping noise and the zone transitions noise. Otherwise, a great, pointless add-on, though I did turn if off when playing my Paladin (didn't seem as appropriate).

That addon is absolutely fantastic...it's definitely being added to my list, if only for a short (but amusing) time.

Today I did a post on my blog Power Word: Gold (http://powerwordgold.blogspot.com/) about using TradeSkillMaster to help maximize profits from selling gems for the jewelcrafting daily. You can find the post here http://powerwordgold.blogspot.com/2011/02/maximize-jc-daily-gem-profit-with.html Thanks!

Would using something like Hamachi work when trying to use Everyair to play WoW when not on the same wi-fi network?
Longhot I know
disciplinaryaction Feb 22nd 2011 8:59AM
I actually tried it with Hamachi and LogMeIn, and it was verrrry sloooow. But the EveryAir guys commented on my post and said that they're working on non-wireless (I'm guessing built-in VPN?) for the next build. It looks like it's in beta right now from their Twitter info, and I think you can still email them to get in on it.

Funny looking addon. Ppl who have used it: does the fun last or will the humor value go down the drain after 10mins?
As offtopic: horrible mouse sensitivity. He can't even control the camera properly. If YOUR play looks the same, try cranking sensitivity down, a lot. Play with it for proper amount of time (to get used to it) and you're never going back.

There was a similiar thing called BloodyScreen which did exactly the same, but with splashes of blood on your screen. It died with the Ulduar patch, but using it before the first titan's grip nerf was SO much fun :D
Irontoof Feb 22nd 2011 5:39PM
Oh wait, they fixed it! YAY
Troutwort Feb 22nd 2011 10:24PM
Thanks for the shout-out, caught me by surprise! Made my day! :D

I like my SCT addon for things similar to that, since it shows the damage done and events in a comic-style font. It works for me.
