Breakfast Topic: Did you accomplish your Lovely goals?

I had one gripe with Love is in the Air this year: When a Heart-Shaped Box was empty, it was truly empty. In the past, you would get high-tier emblems for participating in the daily dungeon event, no matter whether there was other loot in the box or not. Since the changeover to points, the box remains empty while still crediting the player with said points. The problem is that no one likes to be told "you win nothing." It just feels ... odd to me. I would have very much preferred something in the box rather than nothing, giving me a sense of accomplishment. Rather than give the player a message that essentially boils down to "you lose," I would much rather Blizzard give us the points, maybe five Love Tokens for buying holiday items, and then the random number generated extra loot, if it's in the box that particular time -- that way, there's always a tangible prize in the loot window. I'm not saying Blizzard should up the drop rate of loot, but rather to always have something in the box pertaining to the holiday so we don't get such a depressing message.
Did you accomplish your holiday goals this year? Were you one of the lucky few to grab a Big Love Rocket from the holiday dungeon daily? Are your newly rolled goblin and worgen characters well on their way to What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been?

And people thought my Mike Sacco questions were creepy. At least those had a smattering of wit.

Yeah, totally not stalkerish...

All I wanted was the rocket. I left disappointed. *shakes fist*
I agree with the empty box part. They could have at least included the icon for the points in the box. But also nice would have been a few more points, or maybe Valor rather than Justice. It just felt rather chintzy. "Well, we have to give them SOMETHING for doing it." They might as well have included copper pieces in the box for what the reward felt like.

On the other hand, Valor points for 3 minutes of not completely sucking would just lead to the return of the "Welfare EPIX" people. There's no need to put the top-tier of reward on something so incredibly easy. That'd be like getting Valor points for the Jewelcrafting daily, except that the JC daily actually takes some time, if you have to go mine for the gems.

I figured this response would come up at some point or another. We already get 70 VP for running a daily heroic. The reward from the box was 24 JP. If that reward had been 24 VP, would that have made a huge impact? It's less than half of what you get for running a daily heroic.
I'm not arguing "Ponies and purples for all!" I'm just saying a slightly better reward would have been nice. I don't feel like 24 JP was really all that much of a prize.

I agree, it truly sucked doing that boss fight almost every day to get an empty box just really is bad planning. It sucks the life out of the game doing this an having nothing to show for it. The grind gets old enough as is and you would think the holidays would perk things up a little bit.
For the record, all I ever got out of it WAS the empty box.
Very disappointing.

Two years, no rocket.
Next time, Gadget. Next time.

The justice points could have been higher, but I think the reward was just fine. I got really good necks on my 84s, and 24 points closer to good gear at 85. That's what a holiday should be--fun extras and totally optional.

I expect they still have the icons for (eg) Heroism badges around. Remember when you would get a couple of that sort of thing in various boxes and bags? And those badges were naught more than "points" in your inventory, especially towards the end of Wrath. I have to think that they changed something fundamental, that they could not implement that. IE instead of "just giving you the points", they put the points in the box and you have to click on them. ... though that has the problems that it had before, whatever they were. :)
Alternately, they could put a "love note", or a few of the "box of chocolates" chocolates in the box or something else fluffy and unassuming (as McCurley said).

Considering how insultingly easy the event boss was for anyone at 85, 24 Justice Points is what people deserved for clearing the boss each day.
That said, no mask this year and my server's only Love Rocket is in the hands of one of the most unlikable and terrible players you'll ever meet. It's drop rate was way too low.
Remember when the first proper event boss, Ahune the Frost Lord, released back in TBC? It had a normal and heroic version. Normal was tricky but do-able for 70's and the heroic one was a ballache with better droprates.
Why couldn't they still do that? Have normal modes that are a joke and have Heroic modes scaled for people raiding so they can actually have fun doing these encounters as intended and not ignoring the Cologne/Perfume nullifers because the bosses output such pathetically small damage?

got my rocket on the second day of the event. nearly shat my pants too. however it's turned into kind of a curse as now anytime i whip it out i get an endless number of tells.. half of them asking me where i got it, the other half wishing me a slow painful death.

Yes! Yes, I did!
This was the last set of holiday achievements that I needed for "Long, Strange Trip", and about a week ago, I got the bouquet of roses (thanks to a really nifty Grim Batol group, many thanks to them, whoever they are) and my violet proto-drake was waiting in my mail once we finished the dungeon. I was so damn happy.
I think the most fun part of the holiday, though, was dive-bombing into Horde areas to shower some of them with rose petals. Naturally, a troll rogue was the last one I had to get, so I started flying through Durotar, hoping to find one. The place was pretty empty, so when I saw a troll, and it was a rogue, my heart just about stopped. He was just coming out of the inn at Razor Hill. I can only imagine what it must have looked like to him - a level 85 swooping down on a purple netherdrake, landing right in front of him, and... throwing rose petals on him, then disappearing. Hopefully I made his day a little more surreal. ^_^

That poor rogue is never going to leave stealth again thanks to you...

Haha! Well played Mousy and grats! I was able to hit my goal and even get my DK the title (cause Toxxic the love fool - just sounds nice to me :p) by 4 minutes. Also learned that blackrock caverns on regular can be tanked in full pvp gear even with a lvl 80 healer :) Now I am going to sink into holiday withdrawal after running various toons around for the better part of a month. Already looking forward to getting my now lvl 52 alts "the noble" titles. :)
Neyssa Feb 22nd 2011 8:13AM
I was just happy to get a nice ilvl neck for my fresh-85 little warlock :)
"to the Headless Horseman's mount which dropped like crazy during this past Hallow's End"
I did not feel that, I went every day with 3 characters and no flying horse.
I have not seen the love rocket either but actually I would be much more excited about HH mount :)
Chestiicuura Mar 28th 2011 10:42AM
Agreed about HH did it also on like 3 chars every day and i wasn't even able to get the pet for the achievement from it.
About the valor points reward i am not so sure it would have been a good idea; I mean ppl run those seasonal bosses for pets/mounts anyway. IMO it is too easy to reward valor points :P
Harvoc Feb 22nd 2011 9:17AM
Yea me too, turns out the neck piece that dropped was pretty good so I ran it a few times yesterday and had it drop on my 3rd run. As for the Headless Horseman Mount, I had it drop for me pretty early in the holiday actually.
DeathByPain Feb 22nd 2011 9:18AM
I got the HH mount 6 times this year across 3 characters. Three each on my warrior and priest, and zero on my main, a hunter. It was pretty frustrating, to say the least, running it on my main and getting nothing, and then running it on my alts and getting "another stupid mount!" Still have one set of extra reins in my warrior's bank.
