Yeah, I might fire up Champions Online again, now that I'm not required to pay for it. Wasn't worth my 15 bucks to beta test their rushed product, though.

I don't know what characters you had before, but now under the free game, you are restricted to like 6 different preset types, you can't customize them like you could before, maybe needing you to recreate a character.

That's fine. Since names aren't restricted, it's not an issue if I want to recreate my crazy killer nun.

Actually you just convert the character. I took my level 24 power armor and made him into the ice.archtype. Then I realized I didn't like it nearly as much and quit. Of course, only after updating my costume....for a half hour.

@ The bungie mmo thing: Well, I'm never going to Massively now. Kotaku is not a credible source for anything. Ever. If Massively is going to create articles about the nonsense that goes up on Kotaku then they just lost all their credibility with me.

So this Rift is looking like it might be decent after all?
Anyone tried it? I'm always dubious about jumping into an mmo in it's early days.

I've been playing since Closed Beta 5 (didn't get a chance to on 6) and then for the last week in Open Beta "7". I really like it.
So much that I got the digital CE. There isn't much choice (currently) with starting area content, just the two sides, so I don't plan on leveling very many toons, only 1 per side to begin with. But it looks to be pretty fun and I think it's going to work out well.
I will remain on WoW but only with my main raiding toon, as RIFT will become my new place for altoholism. :)

I wouldn't try Rift if I were you, I've found that after playing Rift and then going back to play WoW was like waking up next to a Very ugly person that looked great the night before in a dim lit bar, but now you just want them out of the house.
Play at your own risk... there may be no going back.

I tried it out, and it was alright. The graphics are better than WoW's, certainly, but I've never cared too much about graphics. I don't think I would ever switch to it, or even play it too extensively - I've invested too much time in WoW to "start again" with a new MMO.
Kind of like how I never restart my Pokemon games, even though I've done almost everything in them.
Anyway, while the class system is different and interesting, I don't personally really like it that much. Also the camera movement. I don't know what it is about it, but it gives me a headache.

Champion's Online is free now????
What strange, parallel universe have I stumbled into this time?

The one where everyone's going F2P because several hundred thousand microtransactions a month are far more profitable than a few thousand dedicated subscriptions.
