Patch 4.1 PTR: New WoW Trading Card Game loot

For War of the Elements, the pet will be Landro's Lichling, presumably a rehash of Blizzard's Lil'KT, much like Landro's Lil' XT was a re-color of the Blizzard-sold pet store product. Fool's Gold will be the uncommon, allowing a player to plant down a fool's gold mining node and have up to 25 people turn into greedy little kobolds. The rare mount in the set will be the Savage Raptor Mount, a potentially awesome-looking raptor that better be as savage as its name suggests.
Twilight of the Dragons will bring us the common Nightsaber Cub pet, further reinforcing my theory that we'll be seeing the other two datamined cubs, the Wintersaber and Panther, as purchases in the Blizzard pet store later this year, potentially with a plush toy companion. The uncommon loot card is the War Party Hitching Post, which will presumably act like a Foam Sword Rack, allowing up to 25 people to grab a special horse mount for a limited duration. The rare mount will be the Amani Dragonhawk, a dragonhawk done up in the style of the Amani trolls, who are making a big comeback in patch 4.1 with the return of Zul'Aman.

Maybe it's just because you usually come up with good header images, but this one looks like someone had a seizure in MS Paint.

It's midnight and I'm tired. It was this or deathwing_sez_wowtcgloot.jpg.

Damn the bloody TCG. As a pet and mount collector, this just annoys me, as You'd need to win the lottery (figuratively speaking by getting the card itself, or literally to even buy it) to get them :/
charlequin Feb 25th 2011 12:44AM
Or just make a lot of gold in-game. There's usually a CCG mount put up on the AH every few weeks on my server -- you just need 60,000 gold to buy it with.

How about an alternative perspective? Maybe some of us LIKE the TCG, and these are just fun little extras that accompany it?
Drakkenfyre Feb 25th 2011 7:06AM
Stella, Blizzard Collector's Edition after WarCraft 3 have traditionally included a pet. It's not a "reason" to buy it, it's one of the bonuses. You seem to be ignoring the other things included in the Collector's Edition. The Cinematics DVD, the soundtrack DVD, the artbook, three portraits for StarCraft 2, three decals for StarCraft 2, a unique skin for the Thor in multiplayer, a comic book, the pet, oh, and a USB flash drive with the original game and expansion.
It's not "just" to get you to buy StarCraft 2.
And the Cataclysm Collector's Edition came with portraits and decals for StarCraft 2, too.

I also get annoyed with the TCG stuff but it does help since blizz made them BoE- which was because people were getting scammed by purchasing the mounts for gold, btw, so now you can actually purchase the "physical" item rather than just a code that may or may not be legit.

Stella, chill out. The stuff that the TCG adds to the game is entirely cosmetic. Most of the loot you can find is toys and doodads. (Although my Epic Purple Shirt does boost my epeen by great strides.) The rest is mounts and pets. Status symbols? Maybe. But nobody's cheesing any fights because they brought along Papa Hummel's Pet Biscuits. Comparing it to the sale of gear is just silly.

I want to call bs on the amani dragonhawk being TCG, the mottled drake seems to fit better in the Twilight of the Dragons pack. Hope I am right I hate tcg mounts we aren't all willing to buy it for $400 on amazon or buy 10 3 packs over and over again.
Risq Feb 25th 2011 1:21AM
Pretty sure I've seen the Mottled Drake already flying around Org...
Wintersaber and Panther as plushies? Oh hellz yes!
Cyno01 Feb 25th 2011 2:18AM
Mottled drake is live, ive seen a few. Its from the Worldbreaker TCG expansion according to wowhead.
I've decided that i wont spend real money for an in game item ever, WoW or otherwise. If i get something free, like the Mt Dew promo pet, or some cool weapon for preordering or something, fine, but i wont spend a dime at the pet/mount store or on the TCG, just because i'm a completionist*, and then ill have to buy all of them, and then any new ones they release...
*113 mounts and 129 pets, none, aside from the mt dew warbot, from out of game.

What? Amani Dragonhawk isn't in new-ZA? :( That's.. ew.
Kylenne Feb 25th 2011 3:06AM
I am really, really disappointed about that. The Dragonhawk should have replaced the old war bear. :(
Yttarion Feb 25th 2011 3:07AM
I totally read that as "War of the Elephants".
>.<

I really hate that they put so much thought into these bonus TCG loot items. I mean the foam sword rack and this fake gold mine. These are things that are actually pretty interesting to have. Yet when they make items for archeology they don't do anything and are completely useless. O look a mirror image of myself that does absolutely nothing... what a waste.
AudreyR Feb 25th 2011 10:32AM
I disagree about archaeology stuff being "useless." They can be fairly entertaining if you use them right. I use the Bones of transformation when zipping between the AH and my bank.
The Chalice of the Mountain Kings always causes a stir in the middle of Org or during a lull in Tol Barad.
But I do agree about mirror image. It seems like a little more could be added to it. Maybe have your reflection mimic your actions.

I have never seen so many articles posted in one day on this site as I saw yesterday. You can make a post every hour, its not going to make RIFT go away.
Alchemistmerlin Feb 25th 2011 10:40AM
Nope, but about 6 months will.
