Patch 4.1 PTR: The return of Zul'Gurub and Zul'Aman

The Google Chrome translation of Taiwan's patch description (and extremely rough, barren patch notes) is behind the cut below.
Keep an eye on WoW Insider throughout the day, as we'll be bringing you patch coverage all day long.
The first major patch of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm's development has been nearly completed! We are ready to test the patch on the test servers. You might be asking: what is on the patch 4.1 test server? Let me tell you!
Gurubashi tribes return
Originally released in patch 1.7 as a 20-man raid, Zul'Gurub will once again open its doors with a new story, new encounters, and improved items! Zul'Gurub is now a level 85 5-man dungeon. To provide more advanced content, players can find ilevel 353 epic items in these dungeons. The average ilevel requirement for this dungeon is 346 when queueing for it in the dungeon finder.
The Return of Zul'Aman
Zul'Aman, a player favorite 10-man raid at level 70, returns as a level 85 5-man dungeon. Zul'Aman will drop ilevel 353 epic items, and requires a minimum average ilevel of 346 to queue for it in the dungeon finder.
With the return of Zul'aman, you may be curious, can you once again get the rare mount? We are please to announce a new version of the rare raptor, tiger and bear mounts, while the older mounts will still retain their uniqueness. We will share more information about how to obtain these mounts in the future.
Class Design
4.1 Although we hope to update the balance to make more small changes, but you can still expect to see a number of updates. The following few things we can now share with you. Keep in mind that these changes do not represent all the 4.1 updates, the test does not mean that the initial version of the update files.
First, we want to hurt the natural range of different attack to make a better balance. You can expect to see in the testing process for this change. (WoW Insider editor's note: I have no idea how to decipher these two paragraphs. I assume it just boils down to, "woo class changes, y'all.") Edit: Reader John says this paragraph is in regards to wanting to equalize players' AOE spells.

- Warriors: Inner Rage will now be learned at level 56. It was originally used to salve the problem of excess rage, but didn't have the right effect on the warrior. We've given the warrior a new level 83 skill: Rallying Cry
- Warriors: Colossus Smash now ignores 70% armor instead of 100%. We'll raise the damage on Colossus Smash and other attacks as compensation.
- The glory of the Word: We hope that punishment and protection paladins themselves or others can make a reasonable treatment, but we know that Holy Paladins sometimes, in some cases can only be used in treatment. We prefer to leave these two talents can be used to damage St skills, and occasional treatment. (Editor's Note: I have no idea what this says except that it's about Word of Glory. Punishment paladins are probably retribution. They want to address retribution and protection paladins using Word of Glory? Word of Glory gets a 20 second cooldown for non-holy paladins so that's most likely it.)

OMG OMG OMG, I have been jonesing for the bear mount ever since BC. I quit just as my guild was getting into ZA and so never got it.

Did...Did anyone else think April Fool's came early when you first saw the title?
Zanaji Feb 24th 2011 5:22AM
Yes, yes I did

I was actually expecting the PTR info to come today. Why? Because Rift's headstart begins today. Blizzard has a history of releasing new information just when another MMO is about to launch, and I don't blame them for it at all. It's very smart marketing.
Mr. Tastix Feb 24th 2011 6:26AM
Yeah but generally speaking, it doesn't stop people from playing other games anyway. It's not the reason I'm playing Rift, for example.
You know why Cataclysm succeeded? Because apparently, all the other developers forgot Christmas existed and didn't want to release anything.
loop_not_defined Feb 24th 2011 6:40AM
Honestly...I checked the calendar.
Glad they're giving a different Warbear, though. I never got the original, but at the very least this'll keep the QQ down.
Navir Feb 24th 2011 7:37AM
Still going to Rift, Wrath was cake when i was unemployed, Cata is to hard when i work more than i want to, for less money than i want..... plus my schedule makes raiding impossible....
Chokaa Feb 24th 2011 8:16AM
I checked to make sure it wasnt Christmas....

More regurgitated content. How about something new for a change?
Ad134 Feb 24th 2011 4:44AM
Zul Gurub and Zul Aman returning as 5mans? Yes please!
John Feb 24th 2011 5:02AM
The cleaned up translation is missing some words.
等級85的英雄5人地城
Level 85 "Heroic" 5 man zone.
This applies to both ZG and ZA.

the rest of the paragraphs were pretty awful - I did a longer translation reply page2.

Woo to new (old) content.
But. there's a but.
Is it a bit odd that the entry average ilvl is 346, versus the item drop ilvl of 353? Surely to have an ilvl average of 346 it is likely that you'll be mostly kitted in 359/346/333s already, and therefore there is no decent gear upgrade here? I like to think that running dungeons is not just a way of having fun with others or getting points, but also the chance of getting a new bit of kit.
And for those who don't raid, they may have a couple of crafted epics, but even so, the gear upgrade is still very small.
I know it's still beta, and I reckon things can (will) change.
Bronwyn Feb 24th 2011 7:58AM
The idea is that someone with an ilvl of 346 would be in pretty much all gear from heroics, maybe with a couple rep epics- the gear will likely fill holes in that item, so that people who haven't cleared any raid content will be able to get in after they've done some heroics/bought some of the tier 11 gear with JPs, etc.
Velina Feb 24th 2011 8:03AM
@MoboezEU: I'm at 346 right now. I'm in mostly blues (two under 346), and three 359 epics, so this works out just fine for people like me. :3
MikeLive Feb 24th 2011 8:23AM
The intended progression model for raiders is
4.0 Regular 5-mans, Heroic 5-man, Raid, Heroic Raid
4.1 Raid, Heroic Raid
4.2 etc
Additional 5-man content in 4.1+, while certainly being "new" content to see, aren't intended as a gear-up stage for raiders (look at ToC5 and ICC5). But for new toons in 4.1+ gearing up, they can mostly skim over the 4.0 stage (though at ilvl 353, it's probably hoped that they would do a little bit to get 359s, but you won't be super-gimped if the rest of your raid is already 359).

Completely unexpected revamp/return of ZG and ZA, and nice to see that new versions of the mounts will be available, to equally placate both the people who got the originals, and those who did not. (I'm sure, instead, it will equally enrage them.)
nymrohd Feb 24th 2011 6:30AM
Completely unexpected? I've been saying ZG will return as a 5man since forever! :) Just do the STV questlines, it was pretty obvious.
Meccaryn Feb 24th 2011 7:07AM
yes - and i'm one of those getting enraged in RL
honestly - wut's with blizzard's designer intent on mounts?
first they are either hard to get thanks to crazy gold sink, or pray for lady luck that it drops after a zillion runs - then when they became more accessible, they simply vanished for good
there's at least a dozen cool mount which simply went "poof" during the patchs : 'original' 60 armorless mounts, ZG raptor/tiger, ZA bear, ToC raiding mounts, Naxx drakes - and heck, old season arena mounts
i'm not saying having 'more options' are nice - but honestly, why the heck you 'encourage' players to obtain 100 mounts while you keep killing off some of the very best collectibles?
there's like tons of ways which could have been done to make the mount 'collection' much more rewarding/enjoyable. for instance:
1, Swift Alliance Steed/Swift Horde Wolf - honestly, these 2 fits WAY better for the achievements For The Alliance!/For The Horde!. i'm not saying the black bear is bad - but its totally 'not sync' for both faction.
2, Old Season Arena mounts for Honor Points - the selection pool of 'PVP mounts' remained stagnant for over 4 years, where the new 'addition' are only rewarded to the very best. which is their right - but the older season mounts are still highly sought after, and could even serve as a staple honor sink. just ensure that current top arena junkies are still rewarded - for example, only mounts up to season 5 if current season is 7.
and one more thing - there's tons of us which PREFER to have the option to regain the old mount.
we dont mind having a new 'substitute' - but we do want to have some way to get that 'old' mount back

"Just do the STV questlines, it was pretty obvious."
Now hat I think about it, I really wish ZG would also be like lvl 30 instance too and not ONLY heroic 85.
When you are questing in STV and get to the "ZG chain" or so you end up in cliffhanger. Its really odd to be like "want to know what happens afterwards? Level to 85, run heroics to get ilvl to 346 and then you can go to that instance and find out!". Deadmines and SFK did this, after zone you would go find out more and "FINISH THE JOB" there etc.
It would also give some new instances to new alts and since I had really good experience of Deadmines being actually challenging and feeling that "you might die if you are not careful" (It was pretty much same difficulty some cataclysm normals are to that level). It kept tank, healer and certain dps on their toes.
It would really be awesome to get some new stuff on old dungeons. Level 30 dungeons are pretty much SM SM SM SM SM ... RAZORFEN. And those places are just outdated with not very intresting mechanics (what mechanics does bosses in razorfen kraul have? Yeah.. nothing but tank spank)
