The Daily Quest: First impressions of 4.1

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
Look, guys. I know it's old content, I know we've all seen it before. But patch 4.1 is bringing back Zul'jin, who is about one of the most awesome trolls who ever ... you know, trolled. You say "retread of old stuff," I say "Zul'jin." You say "they had to add another troll dungeon or two," I say "Zul'jin." You say "the Firelands raid will be incredibly cool," I reply "Zul'jin."
Also, bears.
Right, then. Today, we've got a few different posts from around the blogosphere with some first impressions of the 4.1 patch.
- Tree Bark Jacket would like to let you all know that the green stuff you're supposed to stand in is changing to different-looking green stuff you should be standing in.
- Righteous Defense has a few words to say about the Word of Glory changes.
- Totem Forest takes a close look at the 4.1 patch notes in regards to restoration shaman.
- Pink Pigtail Inn thinks patch 4.1 may be gum we've already chewed before.

Rift is looking better by the day! Thanks, ActiLizzard!

...
Hello-o~? ZUL'JIN!
JC_Icefox Feb 25th 2011 7:20PM
I think it's RIFT if I'm not mistaken.
Boobah Feb 26th 2011 4:19AM
Nah, Moon Man just has a thing for Palladium pen and paper RPGs.
IvanZephyr Feb 25th 2011 7:15PM
You'll be back.

Yeah, pretty much. I did the whole Beta thing and honestly, the gameplay wasn't compelling, I didn't really feel any attachment with the world as 90% of the time it was a zergfest to kill rifts for the special currency you get when you close one. Nobody wanted to do dungeons because you could get better stuff just zerging the rifts.
PvP was dominated by people that had the rift gear, which let them fill out the rest of their gear with pvp bought stuff, making them crush you even faster, and the same old arguments were in the BG chat, including the guy that's only skill was berating his team and telling them how everything they do is wrong. Oh, and there was the added bonus of the people that complained that the PvP was the same or too different from WoW's PvP.
I don't really see myself ever switching to RIFT, it's just not fun.

I played the Beta pretty consistently for the last two events, as well as the open beta and I gotta agree: aside from the Talent system being a blast (my rogue could only be described as Combat/Subtlety/Assassination) everything is is trying so hard to copy WoW that it succeeded...pretty well, in fact.
But if that's the case, I'd rather just play WoW since it's where I've invested most of my time up to this point. That, and my computer can actually run it relatively okay.
As far as the the contents of 4.1 go? Count me in. Aside from the fact that I never ran ZA or ZG at level, if they give them the same treatment as they gave Deadmines and SFK in Cata, I'll be very happy.

How about in 4.1 they make the playable race Trolls much better looking. Maybe something like the Troll in the picture they provide.
I would love to see (on the Horde side) Trolls and Orcs redesigned to be a little more up to date. I know i've heard talks of this, but I wish this would happen already.
A few races on the Alliance side could use redesigned as well.
Preston Feb 25th 2011 7:28PM
For instance the rediculous male Human?
Mel Feb 25th 2011 7:34PM
Give trolls (and Orcs, too) a functioning spine already. Every time I see a troll male straightening up I sigh, because I realize just how badass they would look without the perma-hunch. *sigh*
Noid Feb 25th 2011 7:58PM
I agree Mel, make them stand up a little more straight, fix their ugly run, and their feet. I hate seeing their 2 toes. They look so clunky.

Update the Tauren casting animations too. Especially the female.
I so desperately want to race change my belf to a Tauren cause they're my favorite race in the game. But those casting animations are so *snore*.
Saeadame Feb 26th 2011 5:02AM
@cyan - on the other hand, when they try to make casting animations REALLY interesting, they come out with the worgen/goblin casting animations. I guess they're kind of cool in a "I really feel like I'm conjuring some big powerful magics," but there's something kind of classy about some of the more boring animations. It's like, I'm so good at using magic that I don't have to flail my arms around, I just hit you in the face with it, BOOM.
Jorges Feb 26th 2011 11:26AM
How about they overhaul all the player models of all vanilla and BC races? Everyone else look so horribly outdated with the inclusion of worgens and goblins.
Seriously Blizzard, how much time can it take for one of your 3D artists to tweak a player model? It's been done before by the community in a matter of days, why can't you do it?
ScorchHellfire Feb 25th 2011 7:33PM
You know... they aren't necessarily bringing Zul'Jin back... considering they are probably replacing a lot of the Zul'Gurub bosses, I wouldn't be surprised to see Zul'Aman's bosses changed as well...
Sicadastra Feb 25th 2011 9:29PM
Zuljin's one of the Warcraft universe's oldest lore figures, he'll be back. Maybe not as a boss, but he'll be back.
Jack Mynock Feb 25th 2011 7:42PM
Who wants to bet that three months ago these people complaining about retread content were QQing about the removal of ZG in the first place because they hadn't gotten their mounts yet.
Jack Kelly Feb 25th 2011 7:56PM
I play to relax. Cats has not been relaxing in the slightest. I like a challenge but getting blamed when things go bad (even when it has nothing to do with my healing) is not fun.
Haven't played in three weeks.
They can't lure me with pets and mounts anymore.
It sometimes seems like that's their big draw now and not the content.
Noid Feb 25th 2011 8:01PM
Seasoned/dedicated players want more of a challenge. The average video game player wants to have fun, and be challenged slightly, but not to the extend that the dedicated players want.
Seasoned/dedicated players will play/purchase WoW no matter what. By making it simpler to the average joe, they are increasing their sales.
No matter which side they take, someone will be upset. There's really no perfect median.
cyanea85 Feb 26th 2011 2:27AM
Sorry you feel that way.
I'd be disappointed if they tuned the difficulty down. I've been rather enjoying it.
