Datamining Cataclysm's legendary staff

Check out the MMO-Champion thread here. The forum users working on this have really done a spectacular job figuring out this puzzle. Big grats to them!
So, what do we do once we get something as awesome as this? Speculation! Many of the staff icons and files were named "Firelands," so it is safe to assume that most of the epic staff is put together in Ragnaros' domain. However, there's also a Timeless Eye item mentioned, and the staff's body is made from wood. Wooden weapons don't seem to be Ragnaros' deal.
The Timeless Eye definitely points towards Caverns of Time something or other, and with the body of the staff being wooden and definitely not of the Firelands, we're looking at night elven stuff going on. We'll find out, sooner or later.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has destroyed Azeroth as we know it; nothing is the same! In WoW Insider's Guide to Cataclysm, you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion, from leveling up a new goblin or worgen to breaking news and strategies on endgame play.

*crossing fingers for the one in a million chance that there will be a version of the legendary staff that serves as a feral kitty weapon >.

Unfortunately it'll probably be a caster item.

Sorry to crush your hopes, but there won't be. An agility legendary may come in the future, but for this one it's a non-spirit caster staff.

Finally.

What about the one you got in TBC?
Kurash Feb 26th 2011 7:02PM
Weren't around during the end of BC, were you? There was a legendary bow that dropped from Kil'Jaeden.

I'm expecting a DPS melee weapon to come up next.
jsin1276 Feb 26th 2011 6:39PM
Oh how I can't wait to get my hands on the legendary.
jacksworth Feb 26th 2011 6:44PM
no regrets huh? so why are you trolling around WoW sites?
Nikretep Feb 26th 2011 6:53PM
Check out that swirly purple magic! It certainly looks very much like something from the caverns of time.

Also if you look closely at the textures in the mmo-champion thread you will see the shaft is actually made out of stone not wood so those pieces could come from Firelands, Mathew...
Mathew McCurley Feb 26th 2011 9:58PM
The textures clearly have knots in them -- it's wood. Wood has knots.

Yeah, legendary meaning nobody gets it.
Andre Feb 26th 2011 9:15PM
That's kind of the point...
Drakkenfyre Feb 26th 2011 6:48PM
Parts are from Firelands, parts are from War of the Ancients. Simple.
Sleutel Feb 26th 2011 8:40PM
That was the speculation I was coming in to post. With Blizzard moving back towards having multiple smaller raids for each tier, it makes sense for the construction of a new Legendary item to be split between two or more raids.

Oh god, yes. Oh god, yes.
The one thing I was sort of hoping for was an Anathama/Benediction-style legendary that could turn from a staff into a legendary MH + OH combo with, say, some kind of set bonus. :D Ideally, you could enchant the MH + OH and have both enchants remain on it once it was reformed into a staff. That way, everyone could use what they enjoyed visually for a weapon.

I hope the effects are more impressive than those shown or it has a really flashy special effect for it's equip bonus or something, because right now I'm not really that impressed.
Val'Anyr and Shadowmourne were both quite impressive and unique but this just looks sort of like any staff you could pick up levelling.
In vanilla it would have been pretty fancy, but now every staff you find is covered in spikes and floating bits. This doesn't really stand out.
