According to a statement from Blizzard
on Eurogamer, patch 4.1 will not contain Firelands and the associated raid content. Lead producer J. Allen Brack cited the fact that players hadn't sufficiently progressed through the current tier of raid content as the reason for this decision. Eurogamer provides the quote: "We feel like the player base isn't really ready for the next raid yet," [Brack] said. "And that led to some changes where Firelands is now actually going to be in 4.2."
This is a step toward much smaller (and faster) content patches, much as we had back in vanilla
WoW. Blizzard could release a small set of features far more rapidly than the current "monolithic" patches. Firelands and its associated raid content will now be included in patch 4.2.
Patch 4.1 will entirely focus on the return of Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub.

It actually is a great plan.

I confess I don't really see why he's downrated. I mean, the replies just confirm what was said... /confused

Actually AtomB, it is a very good plan.

So basically they are going to nerf resilience, yet not let us get better gear?
Healers have enough trouble as it is.
wobegone Mar 3rd 2011 8:23PM
What does a reil nerf have to do w/ 4.1 not including new raid content
GiveBite Mar 3rd 2011 8:35PM
Easy, if there isn't a new raid tier, there won't be a new arena season.
Sorcha Mar 4th 2011 5:34AM
This is the only bit I'm concerned about. Otherwise I think it's a really good design idea: we get more patches i.e world feels more dynamic, raiding gets slightly easier through slightly better starting gear so there's no need to nerf it, and quality control remains good because Blizzard can take their time with it.

I certainly hope that this doesn't mean that a new raid won't arrive until 4.2, and that we're only receiving new heroics in 4.1.

If you read the post at all that is exactly what it is stating. Read much?

I'm glad they made this decision. There are very few guilds that have completed the current content, most of which still have 2-3 months of progression left. The small number that are already 13/13 heroic...they could probably use the break. Plus the non-raiders and casual raiders will get some more content and gear with the new heroics.
This is a good decision for everyone except the 38 guilds that are done with heroic raiding for this tier.

Nice. I do hope 4.2 will not be too late though and that this patch adds more content than two new dungeons.
roberto.wolf Mar 3rd 2011 8:24PM
I guess patch 4.1 isn't as far as everybody thought.
Harvoc Mar 3rd 2011 8:27PM
Guess that means no Legendary caster staff next patch. Here comes the QQ.
Matthew Mar 3rd 2011 8:27PM
Lordy, I haven't raided since ICC . . I feel so BEHIND! I'm almost so behind I'm ahead!
Almost.
Ice Mar 3rd 2011 8:28PM
Excuse me?
So tell me, what is "faster rate"? Instead of every 6 months its going to be 4? 3?
Do they expect me, as raider, to run those 2 5-mans for 3 months? Seriously?
I'm sorry but this feels just panic after RIFT launch to push content fast out to keep subs happy. I mean when PTR was up it was very unfinished even for PTR standards(more like early beta stage).
Also what worked 6 years ago wont work now. Unless 4.2 isnt coming in 2 months after 4.1 I'm going to happily unsub until it arrives since theres nothing for me in that patch :S
I'd do longer rant about this but its 3 am here and I just cant understand much why would they do this.
Ice Mar 3rd 2011 8:30PM
Also I get feeling these things will happen:
You will still get valor rewards from JP and ZA and ZG will drop epics.
"Lets make people catch up so they can get to T12 even if we have to hand out epics this way" patch? Sure feels like it.

I think you should hold back the nerdrage until we actually get a timeframe, for all we know it could be a matter of difference in weeks.
Given that the 5 mans are made for people who already have done some raiding (or are in full 346), I wouldn't be surprised if they used them to help top people off gear-wise, so everyone can finish 4.0 at level as opposed to overgearing them later.
If the two 5mans are the only major content in 4.1, then we could probably see them go live within a month, and see the raids a month or two after that.
Also, I have no sympathy for those who are already bored and waiting for content 4 months into a brand new expansion, as there are still plenty of guilds with plenty to do, and I'd hate to see these new raids go the way of Ulduar and get overshadowed before everyone had a chance to dig their teeth in. Past 4.1 everyone will be on a relatively even playing field gear-wise (only a normal+heroic tier instead of questing+5mans+H5mans+raids+Hraids), and patches can come out more quickly.
Hal Mar 3rd 2011 8:54PM
Well, if you're completely decked in T11 heroic gear, you could always level an alt.
Or go play another game while you wait for new content.
Or read a book. I hear those are good.

What do you know? From Bashiok:
"Our goal with each major patch release, and especially with each expansion, is to learn from the past and use that knowledge to improve the game as we move forward. One of our biggest regrets in the pacing of Wrath of the Lich King was the Crusaders' Coliseum. The Trial of the Champion 10- and 25-player raid was released while many raiders were **still busy with Ulduar, which meant a premature end to Ulduar raiding -- and a lot of players didn't get a chance to experience all of Ulduar's content during the normal expansion progression**.
Having learned that lesson in pacing from Wrath of the Lich King, we don’t feel Cataclysm needs a new raid tier just yet. We’re close, though, and Firelands will be part of patch 4.2, which is expected to hit the PTR **very soon after 4.1 goes live.**"

There is some guilds that have cleared the heroics already, but that doesn't mean that blizz should release new raids for those up to dozen guilds. The rest can still be quite far behind. Sinestra hasn't even been killed on all realms yet! Our realm (ravenholdt EU) got it's first sinestra kill this wednesday and most of the guilds haven't even gotten to heroics yet (we've got everything but the last bosses down on normal ... nefarian can go to hell)
