I just laugh at rated battlegrounds...they were supposed to be this arena killer...a golden savior descending from on high to free the masses from the oppressive yoke of arena play...and yet at this point I think rated battlegrounds are probably played less than arenas by far, hence the culling of the 15v15 bracket. I also don't think the people that hated arenas are loving rated battlegrounds. When first announced people envisioned a scenario where queuing for a random PuG battleground would somehow grant you conquest points. Of course that wasn't the case. My prediction came true...rated battlegrounds are just bigger arena battles, and since that is the case I think more people just choose to play 3v3 or 5v5. About the only thing rated BGs have over arenas is that you don't need a predefined team...just get a group going and your rating is your own. I really wish that normal arenas worked more like that honestly.
It's just like what's happening with 10s and 25s in pve. If you have two activities that award the same loot people are always going to gravitate towards the one that requires the least amount of people. There's no way around it. That's why 3v3 is the most played bracket, that is until blizzard decides it's too hard to balance and declares 5v5s the "real" bracket".
